Hi Kris,

Ah... So you are already doing the replacement hack. Yes, then you must just have missed some of the files is all. Although... Now that I think about it, the MINI folks usually replace USA with GB and so maybe thats why I've never noticed the POI language problem before???

BTW, could you tell me how you are correcting the CRC info when replacing the lan_... files in NavTweak? I can't seem to find its location in the language module file when looking at it with a hex editor.

Thanks!

Yeah, I had already replaced USA with GB previously and didn't experience any language issues. It's only when you try to swap with something non-english. The NAV must store a numerical value representing which language is which... something that it re-translates out to a text string to read the right folder on the map disc (ENG vs FRA). The 0/0 text string in my lng_francais does say USA, that's where I (incorrectly) assumed it'd be looking.

Like I said, I do get full english menus when in GB voice mode, it's just the points if interest db that it's pulling off of the DVD that are in French.

I found the CRC using CRC-24.exe (found in the files on the HackTheIBus yahoo group). The CRC is the last 3 hex numbers in the file (XX XX XX).

Cool! Thanks for the info. I'll give CRC-24.exe a try.

BTW, it looks like the POI icons are now being pulled off the DVD as well. Myself and others here have tried replacing the POI icons (like the gas station icon, etc.) with custom ones using NavTweak and they're not showing up on the nav screen (i.e. it appears that they are being overwritten by ones on the DVD).

Yep.

I did just find this text inside this file on the NAV DVD:
\TPD\nccBus_na_20060613\INFO.PSC

Quote:
#TPD-LAN <list of space separated language codes>
TPD-LAN 2 3 6

#TPD-DEF <default language code>
TPD-DEF 2

#TPD-TIT <language code> <title>
TPD-TIT 2 Destinations+
TPD-TIT 3 Destinations+
TPD-TIT 6 Destinations+

#Language specific content (LSC) files
#TPD-LSC <language code> <relative path><LSC filename>
TPD-LSC 2 /ENG/ENG.LSC
TPD-LSC 3 /FRE/FRE.LSC
TPD-LSC 6 /SPA/SPA.LSC

Now, I'm sure I can change that on the DVD to fix my problem... but I'd rather try and figure out how to change that language code in the NAV firmware.

Hm... the string 'TPD-LSC' is only found inside the "bsw2" file on the nav firmware disc...It appears as though it's being defined as a string and not necessarily set yet...

hmmmm...

SWEET! I've got my MINI's nav UI all set up with custom text strings now. MAN! It's soooo much easier to navigate through the user interface now. My wife's going to be very happy with it as she really had trouble understanding all of the verbage used in the OEM user interface.

BTW, I've set my nav system up based upon the verbage that's used in the Garmin nüvi's really nice "Where To? / View Map" user interface and it's terrific. I'll post a few screen shots of my system just as soon as I get a chance.

A BIG thanks goes out to KrisL for leading the way on this one and to nomad for his wonderful NavTweak program. Kudos to you both!

Yep, I've got a Nuvi 350 (for the wife and for when I travel). Actually not in the spreadsheet pic I posted, I also changed 'Directions' to 'GO!' in the customized firmware I have posted. I should change 'Input destination' to 'Where to?' as well for v2 .

I've posted some screen shots of the "Where To? / View Map" style set up I did for my MINI. You can see them in the following thread over on NAM:

Making The MINI's Factory Nav System More Intuitive!

I must congratulate you on your skills. Please tell me, how do we mere mortals download it from megaupload?
