Look at this earlier message in this forum.
Originally Posted by pvoltti Hello I do have the same issue happening in my X5. I think that it is not any OS dependent issue. When you start your vehicle in a rural area (with a route magnet set on), the navigation system gives you audible insructions, but it does not show instructions visually. When you start your vehicle off-road (and the route magnet is set on), the navigation system gives you both the audible and visual instructions. However, when you the go on to any "digitized" road and then come back to "not digitized", the system does not give you instructions anymore. I think that the reason is either a bug or it relates to some settings. I do not know how to fix it, but I would be very keen to know. I'm willing to bet you probably never had an O/S older than V17, however. With each NAV system I've had, it always functions fine until I update to newer than 17.2 Sure, the interfaces are pretty in the newer O/S, but at the loss of function. I'll be able to post a DEFINITIVE answer on Saturday, as I will be obtaining another V17 disc (my last one got corrupted) If I drop to V17 and all is well, then I've found an O/S issue no one else has either noticed, or cared to complain to BMWNA about. Keep watch on this post..... |

Here is another one.
Since we're hacking things now, NOMAD? 2WIRES? HELP !! Here's the scenario. When I had the MK1 system installed in my car, I could drive thru a very rural neighborhood in my car and receive visual and audio navigation instructions using my Navteq 2005.2 disc. Later, I upgraded my MK1 to the latest version of software for that era hardware, and drove thru the same neighborhood, but received a message across the screen stating "CORRECT DEST. GUIDANCE NOT POSSIBLE" and no more audio instructions were given, but a white line was drawn straight to my destination. Keep in mind, I was using the EXACT SAME 2005.2 Navteq CD. After dropping the O/S back to the Original version (v.8) the "CORRECT DEST. GUIDANCE NOT POSSIBLE" message went away. Okay.....so later I upgraded to the MK3 and finally to the MK4, and they BOTH give "CORRECT DEST. GUIDANCE NOT POSSIBLE" when driving thru this neighborhood. When poking thru the code with a standard hex editor, I discovered a line of text entitled "PARTIALLYDIGITIZEDGUIDANCE=OFF" or something to that effect. It's my believe that this line of code was DISABLED in later versions of the NAV O/S and hence it keeping the later NAV computer from guiding corretly in EXTREMELY rural areas, but in the MK1, it must have been set to "ON" Does ANYONE know how to crack the nut of correcting this rather annoying problem ????? NOMAD ? 2WIRES ? |

Routing and Guidance subsystems are very complicated. Nobody knows how they works. Even the authors. It will be much easier to write new navigation SW from scratch than fix/modify existing.

How come that a MK1 with an earlier software could guide but when you put the same mapdisc in a MK4 or MK3 then it´s not possible to get guiding. It could not be some faulty mapdisc it must be in the BMW software. I think they have put in some limit in the software. It´s realy crasy to not have guiding inside a village. Wath is happening if you are driving and look at the navigator and you should run over a kid?
