Thumbs up cd player behind 16.9 screen

Hi does anyone have a cd player fitted behind there screen oem bmw fitting on there e53 ? .I am trying to get nav retrofitted in the uk and only can find one guy /company who will undertake the job .that said he is also wanting me to fit what he wants ie mk3.now after reading the posts in here it seems mk4 is the way to go ?? if i purchase the parts on ebay and buy a brand new loom from bmw does anyone know the correct part number as i read the retro fit loom is definately a different part to std piece of loom you would buy from bmw oem ,also if anyone can reccomend a fitter in the uk please advise and cost involved.

I have decided i only want 16.9 and mk4 , no bluetooth no tv no movies , no cameras . just the latest spec satnav with mk4 and latest16.9 ,i want the system hooked up to my 6cd in the boot thats a bmw oem part and to work with multifunction wheel ,a local member ccfj1 has been very very helpfull any more help before i take the plunge would be great thanks paul

the cassette player is built in to the nav; it's one unit. It would be extremely hard to replace it with an in-dash unit with the nav screen still in tact. You also need to find the space to fit it behind the screen back there as well. If you want a CD player, I suggest purchasing the Alpine/BMW CD changer for the trunk, or buy a Dice unit.

xnsf, I think scooba is talking about the OEM head units, I beleive that the OEM 16:9 units come in three flavours TAPE, CD and Minidisc. I know they do for the E46, not 100% sure about the x5, but I don't see why not.

Completely different sizes - it would not fit. A better alternative would be to get an iPod and the DICE kit:

I think we all agree even though bmw do build a 16.9 screen with a cd player it seems its for the e46 its a real shame its what i wanted to have fitted with my nav but never mind, thanks for the input scooba

Unhappy Hi ccfj1

Hi thanks for the lead on the nav fitter, i mailed him today and he replied this evening ,unfortunatly he only does e46 oh well back looking for a braver man than me ,I may have to use navtvman on ebay ,i will phone him again for a chat ,we mentioned chandlers bmw do you know the service manager ? what a complete w------. i had a nice falling out with him and im going in on th 26th to see bodyshop manager ,iv paint issue on front passenger door best described as blistered and rubs off when iv tried to polish damaged area ,the vechicle has never been painted since leaving factory iv owned from new .so what is it .i have taken advise from 2 local bodyshops both said return it to dealer iv spoken by phone ,and yes/no it is a warrenty issue but could be outside influences what does that mean ? cop out .It is a tiny bit embarrasing because the salesman is a friend ,but that said we that is my father bought new 3 estate from him ,father in law x5 ,myself x5 and new mini, all cash sales no pxs and you know how it is 1.5% discount on mini and 3 series list on x5s approx £125k.in last 3yrs I am really hoping they support me in this issue but i wont hold my breath what do you think ? the areas im talking about are two about the size of a 5p coin .and not bird mess alkaline stain .scooba
