How to run the satnav as stand alone system?
Here is a challenge for you guys: I have a satnav mk IV system that I'm thinking of installing as a stand alone system (i.e. installed in a non BMW vehicle). It seems like this might be a bit of a challenge as as far as I understand, the satnav system is controlled by the IKE (whatewer that is)? I have tested the navcoder against my system, and there is no traffic on the I-bus except when I try to scan for devices. I then see I.bus activity, but only the one sent from navcoder (as long as I don't have the IKE); 01.08.2007 16:27:14: Audio scan started 01.08.2007 16:27:14: 80 03 F0 01 72 01.08.2007 16:27:14: IKE --> BMBT: Device status request 01.08.2007 16:27:15: 80 03 F0 01 72 01.08.2007 16:27:15: IKE --> BMBT: Device status request 01.08.2007 16:27:15: 80 03 F0 01 72 01.08.2007 16:27:15: IKE --> BMBT: Device status request 01.08.2007 16:27:16: 80 03 F0 01 72 01.08.2007 16:27:16: IKE --> BMBT: Device status request 01.08.2007 16:27:16: 80 03 F0 01 72 01.08.2007 16:27:16: IKE --> BMBT: Device status request 01.08.2007 16:27:17: 80 03 50 01 D2 01.08.2007 16:27:17: IKE --> MFL : Device status request 01.08.2007 16:27:17: 80 03 50 01 D2 and so on.......... Question 1: Is it possible to confiogure the system to run as a stand alone system? If so; how? Question 2; Is it possible to implemet the IKE unit to my system without having to add the rest of a BMW as well? ![]() If yes, how/where can I get a IKE unit?? I'm looking forward to hear your suggestions........... |

D'oh! Just go buy a nuvi... Your life will be a whole lot easier and it will actually work better than your MKIV does (if you could ever get it working at all).

Anything can be done in this world, with the right amount of effort and lnowledge
You 'could' put the MkIV in a non-BMW, but you would need to emulate the IKE (instrument cluster). So you need to program youself a little device (like a PIC) on the ibus to answer and respond to the IKE messages. You could integrate your PIC to the rest of the car. You will need to tell the nav the date and time, the country code and type of car, and all other data for the on-board computer (limit, range, comsumption etc) But you need to be a computer software guru to do this, and really keen to make it work. Anything can be done in this world, with the right amount of effort and lnowledge........... |

Buy a used BMW instrumnet cluster on ebay and pull out the brains for an ibus source.
Or you might be able to get a LKM to work as well, but no OBC feature. |

Thanks for your answers.
If using a "brain" from the instrument clustet might work, I'll give it a try. It it fails, I'll give up the idea of installing the satnav system. Is there any special kinfd of instrument cluster I should look for, or does it not matter? Which model years use the I-bus system? 1990-something and newer? |
