Thank you guys for your help...

Dataready, do you mean I disconnect the battery and re-connect it again?
I already did that several time while the MKIII was connected and nothing happened. I guess I have to take it to the dealer to check it and pay some $$$

If your MK3 drive doesn't do something with a SW disc, your computer is dead.
You need a other MK3 (or directly upgrade to MK4 DVD), you can find one used at eBay or something....

I'd say your mk3 is dead, replace it with a mk4 they are a lot more reliable and are (for the moment) still being supported, while the mk3 is not.

In this case you are better off going to MKIV with a software update.

It is VERY important that the red light on the MKIII goes out BEFORE you disconnect the plugs or the battery. MKIIIs are bad about dying from a sudden loss of power.

I have connected another MKIII unit and everything worked fine
S/W version is 3-1/20 ... can this be upgraded to a newer version?

OK, I found out how to upgrade from a link on the home page.

1. Go to your vehicle and turn the ignition switch to the first position. Let the navigation system boot up and get into a normal operating mode.
2. Leaving the system on (never turn the power off during these steps!!), go back and eject the navigation CD from your drive unit.
3. Put in the V "XX" disk into your drive unit. Watch your screen and be patient. It will take about 6 minutes to do the upgrade. When it’s done it will eject the CD automatically. (note: for MKIII systems that are on version 17 or lower, the system may ask you to insert the Key CD. If so, insert the KeyCD and then follow the on-screen instructions. THIS ONLY APPLIES TO THE MKIII)
4. Put your navigation CD back in the drive and make sure everything is working properly.

My questions are:

- I found that the links for V31 and V32 are not working, can someone give me a working link

- Is there any special considerations to put the downloaded file on a CD?

- I have a very old version, and accoding to the article I might be asked for a Key CD. I do not have this CD! what is the solution?

Thanks for your help!

I also got the Key CD but it has three files:
image.ccd
image.img
image.sub

Which one of them should be put on the CD? Or should I burn all of them on one CD?
