adding nav to a 05

Hi everyone,
I have only had my new 05 3.0 for 8 weeks and am kikking myself for not choosing the Nav option.I am considering retro-fitting it,what I wanted to know is that when you look on e-bay for eg; there are lots of different 16:9 screens and Nav computers with different part #'s .What advise do you have as to which ones to try and bid for.
I have spoke to Vaheh at crevier my local dealer and he can supply most of the stuff but suggests that I source the screen and computer from elswhere due to cost.
Because I have an 05 with the BT and BMW assist that uses the GPS system I was hoping that would make the retro-fit a little easier and cheaper !!!!.

Thanx

I may be mistaken but as far as I know the "BMW Assist" and the "Bluetooth" are controlled via a single unit and that has nothing to do with the navi system.

You may already have the GPS antena so you can save some $ on the GPS antena and the antena cable but you do need to get the 16:9 and the MKIV and the retrofit cable and the misc parts from Vaheh or elsewhere.

I have recently done the retrofit on 03 4.4i but if you have 3.0i, you might want to do the High OBC(SA555) upgrade at the same time in order to get the Time and the other High OBC functions on the Navi screen. This SA555 upgrade will be another $450-$650 on top of the Navi upgrade. If you decide to do SA555 upgrade, go with the 4.6i instrument cluster - it looks much better than 4.4i(I am not so sure if you can use 4.8i's cluster since 4.8i's cluster has 6 speed manual indicators instead of 5 speed on 4.4i and 4.6i)

Good Luck~

I understand your pain, as I wish I had OEM NAV too. But, I decided to go for an aftermarket unit, Garmin 2610, and think its way superior to OEM. Its totally portable, and you can take it from car to car, or on business/personal trips. Plus, its a lot cheaper. Paid about $600 from Amazon.

its powered by cig lighter, so you may have a dangling cord. it does have voice prompts too and the speaker is attached to the power cord. it comes with a beanbag mount that is very sturdy and mounts on top of the dash. it also has touchscreen, which OEM does not, and comes with a handy remote control. also, since its not linked directly to the X, you can input addresses and fully operate it while moving (not sure if you have to be in park w/ OEM, but many manufacturers have this built-in).
