Thanks for all the input. Looks like ebay has lots of parts that I needed for this project.

Is MK3 and MK4 wiring the same? I notice the socket of MK3 and MK4 are totally different.

Yes. The MKIII and MKIV plugs are the same. Make sure you are not looking at a nav from an e65 which are different. You should see a blue and a burgandy plug and the small antenna plug. The video module has a blue and a white plug and 2 antenna plugs.

But Mk3 has round pins while Mk4 has a flat pin.. So how can the wiring the same?

You are confusing radio with nav

Mk3 nav has IDENTICAL connectors to Mk4 nav

1. Nav computer - Mk3 or Mk4. Try to get a Mk4

2. Nav computer bracket plus the 2 or 3 nuts/bolts to bolt it into place

3. GPS antenna + cable, generic antennas work fine, or you can get the original BMW antenna. Antenna commector is standard SMB.

4. Nav add-on cable loom. Available on ebay.

5. New CD-changer + nav trim panel, or just cut a rectangluar hole in your existing trim panel.

The add-on is very simple and highly recommended.

Of course, you'll also need the local map disc for your area. Malaysia is so small I believe the map comes on CD.
After looking at the retrofit guide I'm not too sure which add-on cable loom I needed. Can you provide me the link to ebay for this? Thanks.

Also why do I need to get a new CD-changer? The car already comes with OEM CD-Changer?

You don't need the CD changer, you need the trim panel that covers the CD-changer + nav. When you have nav the trim panel is different.

Sorry that my note was ambiguous :-)

What about the add-on wiring loom? DO I need the C cable or D cable?

The answer is clearly stated in the retrofit instructions:

C = Supplementary wiring harness for navigation systems in cars with a production date prior to 9/98

D = Supplementary wiring harness for navigation systems in cars with a production date prior after 9/98

And you can always make this harness yourself, it only has the speed pulse and reverse signal (both of which you can tap into in the boot)

The fact that you are asking questions about topics which are plainly stated in the retrofit instructions leads me to believe that maybe you do not have a copy of the retrofit instructions. If you don't have a copy, you should get one, because the instructions instruct you very clearly on what to do.
