Is the eject motor gear engaged with the other larger white gear? Maybe the eject motor is not getting power or not engaged.

honestly, i am not sure ... how do you diagnose something like that? do you recommend that i just bring it to an audio/car stereo place? the dealer just looked at me with $$$$ signs ... or should i fork out $300 on ebay for a mk3? i'll be selling it in 1 year. why why why?

I assume that you took off the cover and removed the screw holding the eject motor down. Then moved the motor to the side and turned the white gear to eject the disk. Correct? When you replaced the eject motor and screw did you make sure the motor gear reengaged the white gear like before? Does the unit power up? With the unit powered and the cover off you should see the mechanism respond when you start to put a disk in. If not, the disk drive is dead or at least not getting power from the main board. I doubt your local audio store would be familiar with this unit but maybe. Could buy another MKII, probably half the price of a MKIII.

hi roy ... geez, thx for replying ... i'm at a point of frustration. i took off the cover but didn't remove the screw holding the eject motor down. i was worried i might mess something else up. so i "moved the small metal tab (towards the outside of the nav unit) along its semi-circular track ... and the edge of the CD came out and then i pulled it out manually with my fingers. when i plugged it back in, the red power light comes on. i put a disk in, but nothing pulls it in. even when the disk was in, it didn't show up on the navigation system. what do you think?

Hi All,

Would anyone have a picture of the disc that BMW supply for this?
Or even a part number...

I have tried calling five local dealers (in the UK) who have all said that there is no such disc.

I would like to go back to them with a photo to prove that there is.

They say the only disc they do have, is a CD that is £120 ($191) that they say will update the software and the maps.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me....

This disc it not normally available to the UK public mate, the UK dealers do not have this in their parts catalouge and is available to dealers only (It should be used in cars with nav when in for servicing, but never is).

UK dealers are pretty usless where the OEM nav is concerned.

Part number : 01590141891

This is to update the OS on nav computers not the maps, your dealer is a moron.

Thanks so much for that.

Why do the dealers have to make life so difficult!!

Like you said above, I called two dealers:
Fairfield in Essex - £120 not available to the public.
Cooper in Chelmsford - £210 again not available to the public.

Both places confirmed that they do not have one of these discs.

I'm reluctant to try another copied one after the hassle i've had after the last few days.

Thanks again for your help, was nice to be able to call them and prove them wrong

Because they don't want people like you and me "messing about" with the nav systems.

Up to you mate, I've updated mine hundreds of times (testing mods) since 2006 and (touch wood), never had a problem.

I say I won't try again, but can see myself standing out there again tonight with a torch doing another update! Lol

All I've got to do is get the CD out that's stuck in there and re write the disc. Oh, and cross my fingers!
