Nav Retrofit - On Board Computer

Hi,
First post, hope someone can help me out.
I've just completed (except for CD Changer connection as I need the 6 pin plug) a Nav retrofit on my E46 coupe. Everything seems fine except my On Board Computer doesn't work from the indicator stalk anymore. All the functions are there on the Nav screen though.
Is there a menu setting to enable this?
Thanks
D

Confirm the ibus connection is working:

Can you control the nav from the steering wheel controls (volume, station change etc)?
If so, databus is working and connected, therefore BC button should work.

Look at the button and the cabling to it to determine the problem.
Refer to the WDS for wiring info...

Thanks for the reply KiwiJochen. I've tried the to control the nav from the steering wheel controls and it works.
Could it be the white connector to the rear of the cluster may not be connected properly. All was working before I took the cluster out to connect the brown wire from the retrofit harness to the black / white wire at pin 8 on the cluster?
Thanks
D

Cluster is unlikely to have anything to do with it.
Check anything else you disturbed, and then start diagnosing with a databus monitoring program eg NavCoder

I took the cluster out tonight just to make sure there wasn't a connection issue and also changed the 5amp fuse (no. 9 for E46) and still no joy.
I'm not familiar with NavCoder and don't have an IBUS interface tool so before I splash out €60 for both these things can someone confirm if, using NavCoder there would be an option to activate the stalk controls?
The person I bought the Nav components said he would code the Nav to my car based on the last 7 digits of my chassis number.
The only other connection I made during the install was the Blue / Yellow wire to the fusebox as per this -

Maybe re-doing this connection might resolve the issue?
Any help greatly appreciated

Blue/Yellow is the reverse signal, nothing to do with the BM button on the stalk.

NavCoder (or BMW software) will allow you to monitor and diagnose with ease.

Otherwise, you're left with working blindly by inspecting the wiring of the BM button and stalk, and using a multimeter to test it
Make sure you use the wiring diagram to help you!

Thanks Jochen. I've checked all the fuses and all are fine. I'll disconnect the battery for a while and see if that helps. Is the a special procedure for powering down the MKIV computer prior to disconnecting the battery?
If that fails, I'll try the hidden menu options for the OBC to see if there's anything in there that's off. If that doesn't work, I'll get the dealer to diagnose. Not sure I would be comfortable enough making all the cables required for an IBUS connector. It may well be the stalk needs replacing.
Cheers

The BC should be working mate, are you getting info in the binnacle when you press the button? or has this stopped.

Do you have an i-bus enabled device plugged in(like a dice or intervee)?

Power down procedure.

Go to the car open the drivers door,
Then go to the nav computer, press eject on drive,
Eject the map disc,
Wait for the red led on the drive to go out, this could take 3-4 minutes, (do not open or shut the doors or toggle the ignition).

Hi John. Just time on the binnacle, nothing happens when I press the button.
I do have an intravee but I have removed the 3 wires from the CD changer cable in preparation for connecting to the retrofit harness (I've taped the wire ends up). I'm waiting for the 6 pin connector to arrive at the dealer to insert the 3 wires before connecting to the retrofit loom - my loom was missing this connector. Maybe this is causing the issue. The CD changer lead is connected to the intravee.
Cheers
David

David, Hmm, I can't see how the cd plug would cause this but I suppose it's possible.

The BC button should work regardless of radio/nav type.

I have retrofit nav in mine and other than the speed sensor not being connected properly (pin 8, now working), everything works, funnily I used the BC button last night on the way home.

Do you have a diagnostic tester (DIS/GT1 or carsoft etc).

If you were close to me I'd say pop round mate.
