Compressed air from a can of compressed air (hobby stores, electronics spares stores) and a nearby vacuum cleaner. Do not pas the vacuum over the screen as it creates large amounts of static electricity which will damage sensitive electronic components.
After the dust is gone, use glass cleaner and a soft cloth. |

Have you considered installing a power filter or ground loop filter? For example BMW had a large power filter mounted to the wiring harness for the DVD system they sold. Got these photos from Someone else's write-up.

Excellent question. Honest answer is I have no idea anymore. If it is true that the anti-glare coating is indeed very soft and can be removed by wiping with even water, then I'd be very very careful of using any solvent. Compressed air isn't a bad idea, just realize that if any of the chemical comes out with the air it will do damage to the display. (I've ruined a camera lens filter that way)
The problem with cleaning it is precisely the reason I am looking into screen protectors. |

Well, I would, but before I had the lcd on the monitor replaced, I wasn't having any problem like this at all. So I'm wondering what could've changed? I want to rule out a couple of other things first I think.. unless this is a common fix for the problem I'm describing..

Buy a screen protector for your make / model from these guys eBay Stores - screen protector, screenpatronus items on eBay.com
Clean any dust from screen and apply. No need to remove any anti glare coating on existing screen just apply straight over the top. Had a scratch on my MK4 screen in Mini MCS and this hid scratch perfectly. Shipped quickly as well. |

okay, finally had a BMW tech look at it and troubleshoot my entire system. He said it's definitely the monitor that has the issue - causing the flickering. I will be sending it back to Jimmy today - who replaced the screen. Wish I could say the screen replacement went without a hitch, but alas can not. I'll report back and let you all know how it goes. I definitely didn't anticipate that this would be such an involved process. |

Okay, I received the unit back from the person (Jimmy) who replaced the screen and it is now PERFECT! No more flickering screen! No more light white lines going up and down. He said it was "a defective LCD Driver PC board," and he repaired it. So, now the screen is brand new and pristine, and the unit is working perfectly.. I would now ultimately recommend the screen replacement to anyone looking to replace their screen. I wish I had paid closer to $200 instead of the $250 ($280 after all of the shipping costs) but this guy would do it for $200 if you asked - I went through eBay where the auction for the repair was $250 as I wanted the protection of eBay/paypal, but now I see him offering the same service on eBay for $200.

oh, and with regards to the best way to clean the screen, I asked Jimmy, and here's what he said: "The best way to clean the screen is with a soft clean tissue or soft Bounty (paper towel) and rubbing alcohol. Do not use 409 cleaner or any other cleaner (as they'll take the anti-glare film off.) and clean with care." I'm not sure if I'm going to try this or not.. Please don't hold me accountable if you try this and it does something adverse to your screen.. However, I would in fact like to hear from anyone who does try it!
