Did I crash my nav?

I have a 2003 M5 with what I understand to be a MKIV (shows DVD on reader in trunk). However, prior to attempting to update, it showed my firmware to be "SW 3-1/63".

I downloaded FW V32 here: http://www.xoutpost.com/electronics/navigation-system/50902-v32-has-been-released-now-available.html

I then burned a CDR at 1x using CloneCD. Put it in the nav, gave me the usual screen with red text "CD-ROM in drive, installing sw." Then screen went black and flickered every few seconds. Gave it a good 10 minutes and never changed. All functions still work. I can listen to music now and buttons work but screen will not show, still just flickers. In addition I could not eject the disc. I tried the harness pull trick and the 3 minute hold. Had to take apart and move the gear myself. Screen still blank. I tried burning again with imgburn on stock settings which now looks like I should have changed the mode or something. But that did not do anything but did eject at least.

Can someone please help with a fix?

Thanks in advance,
Jeff

You have a mk3 mate, not a mk4.

You have corrupted your nav computer with a mode 1 disc mate.

You need to put a mode2/form1 disc, with luck you can resurect your mk3 buy putting an OEM mode2 image through it.

After searching around, I found instructions to update the MKIII and a V25 in mode 2

http://www.xoutpost.com/electronics/...ware-here.html

I read on this page that the "black screen" state is irreversible.... I hope thats not true

Wow, I wish wherever these people are getting their half complete nav update instructions would be deleted. We've had about three this week.

For those that have bricked their nav, please post the link to the place you found the half-arsed instructions so a mod can update it with Mode2/Form1 disclaimers.

If you got the black screen on a MKIII by using an incorrectly formatted OS disk, that is reversable. You just need a known good OS update CD. The update CD is part number 01.59-0 141 891 and should be less than $10 from a BMW dealer. Worst case, you could just buy a disk from United BMW-Gwinnett.

I followed the link at " How to" link without knowing I need a special CD/Disk to update.

http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/all...ystem-faq.html

I have a 2002 X5 version 19 initially.

Now the Version 24's CD is struck inside of my MKIII drive. I tried the the first two methods to retrieve it. It did not work.

I wished I had read this thread first. Is it possible to put this thread on "How to" link?

Well. I am going spend more time to fix this issue.

I found the answer from another old thread.

MKIII Nav help needed - screen black after update - The Unofficial BMW M5 Messageboard (m5board.com)

+++++++
Purchased new 2007.2 mapo CDs from dealer today, and had them update my Nav software while there. Mine was original from its 10/2001 build date.

They updated to ver 17 but afterward the screen is black, and the power light is not lit on the Nav unit in the trunk. They worked on it until closing, but to no avail. The system has always worked fine, just the '01 maps were dated.

I'm a little stressed. What to do? Nav screen is black, radio/CD plays but turns off after a couple of minutes necessitating a power cycle of the radio to restore, but then they just turn off again. Apparently there is no power getting to the Nav unit in the trunk now and the head unit can't communicate with it as a result?
++++++

Follow the guy - Carbon01. I had the same exact issue he described except his MKIII software version was at Version 16 or lower. Basically I need to downgrade the software version I inserted earlier. I will try Version 23 first. If not, I will find even lower version to downgrade.
