Nav Screen Dying...REPAIR OR REPLACE?

Hey Friends,

2005 X5 E53 4.8is. Nav Screen has lost all color and is starting to develop random lines of dead pixels. Please tell me what you guys do to address this situation. 2 main questions:

* Can you replace JUST the screen or do you have to replace the entire in-dash unit?
* Is there a BETTER UNIT OUT THERE that is integrated with the E53 that can do the minimum of the same things this one can do (controlled by steering wheel / bluetooth / sat nav DVD / etc)?

Thank you guys so much for your wisdom. You have saved my bacon more than once.
