If you have a mk3 then chances are, its kaput, dead, shuffled off its mortal coil, bought the farm, kicked the bucket. If you have a mk4 then you have a small (and I mean small) chance that you can resurrect it, maybe 5%-10% You will need a v30 OS disc in mode2/form 1 to even attempt it. Why a v30 OS image?? because you nav unit (even when broken), thinks that it has v31/v32 on it as it was part loaded, so you need a different version to attempt the rescue (as OS updates are a 1 shot deal). Here is a couple of tips. 1: NEVER LEAVE THE CAR UNATTENDED WHEN DOING AN UPDATE. 2: DO NOT INTERRUPT AN UPDATE WHILE ITS IN PROGRESS. The update itself takes less than 5 minutes, (less than 3 in most cases). Quote:
Try and get hold of a mode2/form1 v30 (or earlier) version of the OS and try the update, it may take a while for the disc to be recognised (up to 5 minutes), so you need to be paitiant. Also make sure the battery is full or you have it on a tender/charger. You may be lucky and it might resurrect the mk3 as well, but don't hold your breath, you have maybe a 1% chance with a mk3.

GamecocksE53, I'm no expert, but I don't think your unit is dead.
I had managed to screw up my MKIV. I was trying to upgrade to V32, but I was burning the software wrong. Ended with blank screen. Kept trying different ways to burn V32. I had inserted wrong CD/Bad-burn CD about 9-10 time. In some cases CD would get stock and would not even eject. I had to power down, hold eject button, etc. Basically spend about a day just trying different ways. Even tried to down grade to V23. Nothing worked, until I burned the V32 software the CORRECT way. Put the CD in and NAVI came back to life with 1-2 min, finished the upgrade (about another 1-2 min) and its been working flawless ever since. Interesting part that another member used OEM V32 software and bricked his MKIV. I send him my copy of V32, plus V23 and V26 with detailed instructions on how upgrade/install/etc. I don't know if he was able to get his un-bricked, since I have never heard back from that member. Let me ask you; when you put V32 in, does the red LED lights up? If it lights up, then NAVI is reading the CD. If it does not, then NAV is unable to read info that is the CD. If I were you, I would try the following: Open Trunk (leave it open). Wait to the NAVI to power down Disconnect the NEGATIVE from the battery, and leave it for about 30 min. Connect the NEGATIVE to the battery Turn Key in to ON position with Driver's Door remaining open Insert the V32 back in to NAVI and give it couple minutes so it could come back to the point where it stopped. If your V32 is good, you'll be able to see RED LED blinking. If all fails, I can burn you a copy of my V32. I know it works, since it brought my MKIV back to life, plus I just upgraded my friend's MKIV to V32. Good Luck. |

GamecocksE53,
I think if you try what I had suggested, I think you should be able to bring your NAVI back to life. Pay attention to the RED LED. Let me know if it was blinking/light-up or not. If all fails, I'll send V32 and if you need others, I can also included in the package. And you don't need to pay me anything. If my help helps another driver, that is good enough for me. (If I recall correctly, igeak691 was the member that had MKIV issues/bricked unit) I send CDs to him I believe. He's also on this thread). Best of Luck. |

Thanks a lot!! If I remember correctly, the red LED (power) was NOT blinking. And I distinctively remember it blinking in the past. But I will try the above steps... On a unrelated note, I just rolled over 150k this morning and still going strong!!!

In addition, there was no red light and just to be clear, we are talking about the red light on the DVD player, NOT the one that is at the top right of the head unit, correct? What is that anyway? So it looks like the DVD player is not reading the disk...is spinning for sure, but thats it. Oh well, I was looking to upgrade to an aftermarket nav like the dynavin or ebay equivalent...

Hello!
A few months ago, my board display (NAVI dispay) was sometimes rebooting, until it has not started at all two weeks ago. Now, I have noticed that if I hold down the power button on the mk4 module in the trunk , the MK4 module works perfectly , the navigation is loading,it shows the map, directions, voice indications works as well, the NAVI display has all the functions running, even can program my Webasto. If I take my finger off the button, the MK4 no longer works, and the NAVI display goes blank, only the backlight is on. The red light of the MK4 module is repeatedly coming on for a few fractions of a second and turns off for about two seconds. I changed the MK4 lens about 2 years ago and made a software update. I tested my mk4 on another car and has the same problem. Then I tested another MK4 on my car and everything works perfectly . I think it's a matter of power supply inside the module, but I do not figure out what it is. The BMW Scanner doesn't see the navigation module in the menu, as if there is no navi on the car. So can I ask if you know anything about this problem or something that can help my. Thank you! Last edited by rares_crbl; 01-12-2016 at 10:56 AM. |
