How many times have you referred to Native North Americans as indians?

In the 20th and 21st centuries, indigenous peoples in the Americas have been more vocal about the ways they wish to be referred to, pressing for the elimination of terms widely considered to be obsolete, inaccurate, or racist.

So again I’ll ask, How many times have you referred to Native North Americans as indians?

Nope, they were called Indians because those European explorers were looking for a passageway to INDIA. They thought they found the passageway to INDIA so they called the natives they came upon INDIANS.

Back in the 1400's there were no TV's or any other mean of fast communication. Most of the explorers on the ship probably never been to INDIA.

I stopped calling them INDIANS when native Americans stated that they didn't want to be referred to as Indians. I respect other people and don't use ethnic slur in my life.

Let's find a good mom and pop Italian Restaurant and enjoy good meal and talk cars. That way everyone will have a bruised ego to stroke...

As a member of a Native American family, I can tell you it is offensive. It was embraced because, when your people are being slaughtered in a genocide , you will do anything to keep the damage minimal. Even if it means accepting things you dislike.

The tribes are trying to change it.

For me, it doesn’t bunch my panties. I’ve been exposed to racism all my life. It’s nothing new to me, especially living in the United States.

I hear you on lunch, would be nice to line up all of our E53’s

No bruises here.

European explorers is such a polite way to put it. Their exploration resulted in an obscene amount of Native American deaths. At some point they certainly knew they were not in India.

By the time the British Colonists got here, it was still being used. It wasn’t until recently tribes started speaking up.

My point is you have used the word before. Our educational system teaches with that word. Natives to this land don’t like it. If you stopped using it, then you personally understood that it was offensive.

Guido in the same sense could be received as personally offensive to you. But it’s hard to tell when it’s used in TV shows, and restaurant names, etc. Same could be said when the police radio a suspect, “we have a BLACK male, red tee shirt...”. Why not African?

This is the society we live in. It’s been going on in North America for hundreds of years. Like Stephen said, “don’t get your panties in a bunch”.

Might actually be there but since the original actual 1st 302 was lost so the FBI had Lisa Page type up a record of the 302 as was recreated by Peter Strzok.

What you have attempted to say in your post lacks the understanding that if I am a cop investigating a case like someone burnt their property and used it as a means to collect insurance payments (arson) and I came to your office and said "Do you know if that guy down the road set the fire intentionally?"

And to this you say NO... remember that you were NOT read your Rights. Do you know why? Because the investigation is trying to bring a case against someone else, but if you lied about it... you would be open for a charge of (obstruction of justice and making a false statement) all without being mirandized.

A case is just like a house... it has to have a good foundation or there's no hope that everything will stay plum and true by the time you put a roof on. Conversely having a super strong foundation and construction of walls won't mean shit if you get a roof put on that is poorly constructed, since wind and rain will destroy even the good work below.

Saying you don't know when you do can be obstruction. If the investigation uncovered that you did, that is when one would be mirandized if the police decided to arrest the neighbor. At that point the neighbor still has the option to plead guilty, not guilty, or make a deal before court.

Flynn confessed twice. Would you confess if you weren't guilty?

In support of Upallnight--The origination doesn't matter. The continued use in any context doesn't matter. What matters is these labels signal racism to the vast majority of today's society. And, if one doesn't want to be seen as a racist they should reframe from using terms that are clearly seen as intentional demeaning, derogatory labels of others. Also, knowing Upallnight, he doesn't have his panties in a bunch. I suggest you read the definition of racism before you make another post that contributes to the view of others more informed and considerate than you are. I don't see anyone outraged. What I read is constructive criticism that should be a response to anyone that supports your views in hopes it will help them understand why they should question their opinion and hopefully come to a more considerate point of view.

This thread has turned into a place where people chime in on their own political and social view points.

Which is all well and good. There's a lot of discussions and people are engaged.

Let's use that energy to post something beneficial in this pandemic, shall we?

I propose that for every political comment you like to post, you add to it a valuable piece of information that you've either read somewhere (trustworthy source only please), or that you've personally experienced or witnessed. Or even a crack remedy you've overheard and think it might be worth a discussion (if only to have it shamefully debunked and dismissed). It could also be a financial/ economic news relating to our economy's current state as well.

I'll start:

https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas...6-cc81bb635ae4

"How quickly can the U.S. economy rebound from the coronavirus shutdown?"

Hell yes I would plead guilty and then I would do my best to prove my case in court and that I had to take the deal offered by rogue agents (that's why he hired lawyers, duh) I've risked my life for 325 million people I don't know, so what do you think I would do for the ones I love? Hell what do suspect I would do to someone who made a threat like that (if I felt even a tiny chance of success)?

And by the way, i heard Trump is taking Hydroxychloroquine to ward off the effects of Covid-19. I don't know if it's wise to do so. Let's hope his personal experiment bears some fruit!

Come on EOD, it's not that hard. Don't just post a satisfying retort, try to provide some helpful content in defeating this pandemic.
