Thank you BMW brakes
Holy sh*t! I already started a thread once with the title "I was doing 80 when I slammed on the brakes." Well it happened again, only this time it could have been ugly. I was driving to work in the left lane when all of a sudden a car traveling in the right lane flies across all three lanes and hits the divider head on right in front of me. I nailed the brakes and stopped maybe a foot from blasting him. I can't believe I didn't hit him. I can't breathe. I saw his face and all I could think was I'm going kill this man. I am truly amazed at the braking power of this vehicle.
Thank you BMW  |
:wow: that was close. Its these things that's why we like BMW.
|
Amazing. :wow:
I always catch myself checking the rearview mirror when I have to brake hard. I'm afraid of getting rear-ended by someone who doesn't have the same stopping power as me. |
Wow. Glad you are safe! I have only had to slam the brakes hard two times in heavy traffic and I was in awe of the stopping power both times.
Agree with Michelle... I am always looking in my rearview mirror and wishing the cars flying toward me had BMW brakes. |

True story.... I think BMW's have excellent and more than adequate brakes. I don't know how many times I "tested" them in the X5... and with the M3, I've never had once ounce of fade or anything at the track. Granted, I'm not racing, but you get the point.
The only bad thing about BMW brakes (rotors), they seem to warp FAST :( Glad you came out of it ok... |
I've tested mine a few times, I agree they are unbelievable, whenever I let my friends drive the X, they are floored at how fast it stops. I think one of the original tests of it says that it actually stops faster than a cls55

Sometimes this is cleared up with a series of hard stops to redistribute the pad materials more evenly on the rotors. If you remember, there is a process where new pads on new rotors need to go through what they call a bedding process. That is where the materials are embedded into the rotors and if done incorrectly will result is jerky braking. Just a thought, Michael |
Yup, agree on the sheer stopping power of all BMWs. I guess on the Autobahn, you gotta be able to do 100-0 stops on a repeated basis.
The biggest concern, as mentioned above, is people behind you not being able to stop in time. In my opinion, its often those American muscle cars that have the worst brakes in proportion to their acceleration abilities. The rotors on the Mustang I had were the size of milk bottle caps. |
