Lam, sorry to hear what you are experiencing now in term of marrying a foreign bride. Not to discourage you though, it will get worse when she gets here. You can trust me on this, I have seen many Asian-Americans who have lived in the States their entire live go back to their countries to get marry simply because asian women here are "very" high maintainance or due to their lack of time finding a good ones. Most end up in sad endings. My cousin went back to marry a beautiful young lady, after spending about $100K total not including building a house for her dad, motorcycles for each of her bothers, a piece of land in highland resort city for their future return. He went back to the States for his work after honey moon, the bride supposed to be arriving a week later after "staying with her family" for another week after he left. Guess what, she never arrives. She changed her ticket to different date, gone at the airport sent him a letter apologizing that she has to do this because she was never in love with him the first place. Yeah, it is hurtful but true. Good luck to you, forget the Italian girls you have been laying your eyes on.

Perhaps you guys can see how someone would choose to come here illegally. The "proper" procedure to come here is so difficult and cumbersome that it's no wonder that so many people cheat. They need to make it easier to come here legally.

As for your Russian girl, one of my good friends is a Russian immigrant (she is legal and now a citizen), but she has several friends who came over as mail-order brides, and she tells me that the girls just did it to get their citizenship, and once they did, most of them left their husbands. One of her friends is still married, but she says this girl cheats on her husband constantly and only stays with him for the money.

Very heartwarming story. I remember at least 5 movies made about getting foreign bride, including Russian however no foreign-bridegroom. There's a very good reason for that.

I am sorry to hear that it is not happening the way you hoped to be. I recently had a night out with a friend who is very very well to do in Hawaii socio-economically. He's been complaining about finding a good local girl, in this case Hawaii Asian Community due to small population. His 40 something sister is never married. He got lucked out finding bride from Asia recently who is Ivy league school educated also from wealthy family only through a family arrangement.

Geographic situation adds to your difficulty obviously. High maintenance women issue is a problem regardless of cultures or nationality IMO.

:iagree: on BB's comments about open-mindness, is that a word though?.

Best regards.

I'm glad it worked out for you Danielsand! What service were you in? I'm assuming Army? Thanks for your service by the way.

Even though this most likely won't work out with Anastasia it was still a wonderful experience as I never would have seen Moscow or experienced other "benefits" of dating a beautiful 24 year old Russian gal! I didn't have much invested anyway as I used airline miles for my trips and it was great seeing Moscow, Kiev and Warsaw as much as I did.

Ryan, just because I don't agree with your lifestyle doesn't make me "closed-minded".

Lambeau, really sorry to hear how it ended up for you and your Russian bride. I am sure you will find the right one over here in this good old USA. I wish you the best.

That is hardly true. I just went through the immigration process - during that I experienced nothing that made me wish I had come here illegally.

Sure it took a while, but 'the system' was always helpful. From the very first moment I contacted the US embassy, through my many frequent visits here (which quickly attracted the attention of the homeland security officers in the airport) everyone were kind and understanding and always pointed me in the right direction.

Frankly - anyone who complains about it being difficult needs to pull their head out of their *** and ask themselves if they really have a reason to come here. For me the reason was for my wife, and I can certainly understand Lambeau for pursuing this, even if it does not work out in the end.

Eric, I can understand people thinking of the government as cruel and unforgiving to anyone not born on the right side of the border since that all we see in the media, but the fact is that the US is still very much a country who welcomes immigrants with open arms. If you want to see messed up immigration systems you should be looking to the 'civilized' countries in europe instead. Makes the US system look like a revolving door.

Sorry to hear about the outcome...I believe everything happens for a reason. I worked with a MSgt at Edwards who "imported" his wife from Kiev. Two years later, when it was time for his TS update, he finds out her cousin got hit up for armed robbery three times. Guess what happened next? Cross-train....That wasnt the only incident I've seen in this situation...

Good Luck to you, Lam...nearly impossible for any of us readers to
pull a DrPhil and really offer cogent commentary for you, as everyone's
situ is different. I just wish you well or, hope you don't get in too far
if it does not work out...

Ancillary: Somewhat surprised at all the "high maintenance" remarks
in this thread; I must be an anomaly or jes' lucky as V has never been
"high maintz" of any kind, in a qtr of a century.
