Take some great pictures!

Thanks Kewl, I thought yours was a Canon. I'll be posting lots of pics when I get it.

You should definitely consider investing in some larger SD high speed cards and an extra battery, though. That 512mb card would get depleted quickly, especially if you use the short movie feature (a 2GB card can only hold 16 minutes of 30FPS video). And at its highest resolution, each picture would go anywhere between 2MB-3.5MB...so a panarama picture could easily end up being 16MB-20MB in size!

I'm really glad to see that so many folks here have the Canon SD series camera. It looks like I made the right choice for sure. Good advice on the memory. I decided to just get the 512 mb card until I figure out my needs. In addition, instead of getting let's say a 2gb card, I think I would just get several 512mb cards. That way if a card is damaged or lost, all my eggs aren't in one basket so to speak. FYI, I also got a usb 2.0 SD reader for $9.99. That way, I won't need to turn on the camera and waste battery time while I download pictures etc...

I can't be really specific but I would avoid Sony digicams. They are sure cool looking and stylish but I am very skeptical about the quality. It seems to me that Sony makes some very slick cameras but they are almost too delicate. I also find that there is too much shutter lag with their cameras. I have recently played around with my brother's T1 and I was not impressed. It was slow and actually a little cumbersome to hold and operate.

I have been very impressed with my SD400. The battery life is phenomenal and the picture quality has been excellent. I mostly like the form factor and easy of use re: controls and software.

:withstupi I researched the new Sony T7 due to it's small size and form factor. It got horrible reviews! It was not even a consideration for me.

Anyone have any feedback on them? I currently have a Pentax Optio S5i but have not been entirely happy with the quality. I realize I am sacrificing quality by the small size but I am hopping that one of the three above might be better.

Hey Curtis, glad to see you post again! Use this site for up to date digital camera reviews LINK . I would stay away from the new Sony's. The reviews are not good. Especially night pictures. Stick with the Canon. Look how many people here have it and love it. That should tell you something.

I bought it from Costco for $300. Sold a Canon A70 for $100 to offset the $300 and I still have a Canon A80 and a Minolta DiMage 7i, oh and a crappy ass HP I like to keep in the X5 just in case.

With respect to your comment about the SD550 being bigger and heavier than the S400. It really isn't. Here's the difference:

S400: 3.4 X 2.2 X 1.1 (6.5oz.)
SD550: 3.5 X 2.2 X 1.1 (5.9oz.)

SG: No Xpert here, but I agree w/your logic on the batch of 512s vs a 1G or 2G card, and the reader. Even on "Large/SuperFine", I can pack a lotta pics on a couple of 512s. Amazing how the price for mem cards is dropping like a rock.

Yeah, it looks like a 512mb card will hold 160 pics at the highest resolution (3.2mb each). Personally, I would never have that many pics on the camera. I would download to the computer long before I maxed out the card. I also won't be taking a lot of videos, but it's nice to know it's there when I need it.

Canon has some very nice Digital Cameras.

last month i got the POWERSHOT S2 IS with a 1gb SD card, and the best part is that it was free :D i used my rewards points from american express to get it  it was only 88,000 point needed to get the camera.

it is only 5 mega pixel but it is loaded with feature and a 12x optical zoom and the combined zoom is 48X.

Congrats on the new camera. I have a powershot S330 and it has served me well but the short movie feture is not the greatest quality. How do the short movies look on your new camera?
