Thanks for the heads-up.

I didn't mean to embed them. My apologies. Nor did I mean to embed the ICC profiles into the following images, but I couldn't be bothered resaving all 48 images again since reading your post. Here are my improved (and probably final) versions. Once again, rename it from car.wmv to car.zip

It only makes a difference to the file size, not the display or function of the Navigation Computer as far as I can see. They update instantly.

rom_col - red & yellow
rom_col_1 - blue & green
rom_col_3 - black & white

This is what I have determined so far:
  • rom_col - No affect any colour on the system
  • rom_col_1 - This sets the scheme for the GPS logo and all colours in colour scheme 1 (ie. the Blue one)
  • rom_col_3 - This sets colour scheme 2 (ie. the Brown one)
There are a few exceptions (I haven't found them yet)
  • The text for the 'road' icons (the background icons are images)
  • The text for city/ocean/lakes/park names
  • The N & arrow square in the top left of the screen
  • The 'haze' for the sky in perspective mode
These must all lie elsewhere.

What this means
  • Full modification of the screen colours is possible
  • A 'night mode' could be created in place of one of the schemes used by the system
I've attached some images of the Frankenstein screens!

EDIT: I didn't think to switch the car's lights on/off to see if there was a hidden day/night switch. Maybe...

Guys,

Just been playing around a bit and have created a rather natty green version of the OS.

But I have noticed the following:

Colors for Widescreen: controls all colours to change the OS 'look' By changing all the browns in 'rom_col_3', I have acieved a modified OS without affecting any map colours.

Equally rom_col_3 only changes the colors in split screen mode - not in full screen:mad: Any one know where the full screen colors are hidden?

Update

There appear to be FOUR colour schemes possible on the BMW Mk-IV DVD System. Changing the colours in them affects everything (main menu, phone menu, etc)

Colour Set 1
Split rom_col_1
Fullscreen rom_col_10 (not yet confirmed, but it can't be any of the others as I've ruled them out)

Colour Set 2
Split rom_col_3
Fullscreen rom_col_2

Still yet to find
- colour for text labels for highway icons, streets, parks, lakes, etc
- colour for

My guess is that these are in rom_col_10

More testing.

I've already created a darker version of the 'Brown Theme' - including the map & main menus :) It is still in the testing stage. Attached are photos - same exposure, same brightness settings.

Try 'lettering' to change text for parks, lakes and cities.

Each 'rom_col' file completely defines ALL colors used by the system at the moment. System can't work with two or more profiles simultaneously.

Nope. No luck.

I have no idea where:
- Colour Set 1's fullscreen colours are set (it's not rom_col_10 either)
- the colour for the N & compass arrow resides
- the colour of the sky 'haze' in perspective resides.
- the colour for the text of roads, lakes, parks, street signs, etc

I've changed EVERY colour in EVERY colour set and nothing seems to change them...

This is, of course, in the following NAVBOOT file
V_2\RR\0101\BMWC01S\app_sw\
The setting for these colours may reside somewhere else!

I think here is correct assigment:
Colour set 1 fullscreen - 'rom_col'
Colour set 1 splitscreen - 'rom_col_1'
Colour set 2 fullscreen - 'rom_col_2'
Colour set 2 splitscreen - 'rom_col_3'

You can try to change text color by altering all white (or even all) palette entries to something else.

Yes, tried that with no luck. I changed all the colours in rom_col to red and nothing changed...

UPDATE

- I've finished my modified 'Colour Set 2' with much darker browns. I've left the hightlighted colour the same bright orange with good effect. (see pics)
- The colour for the 'haze' is actually taken from the colour of the last line of the sky jpeg. I inverted a 'test' image - see attached.
- I still have no idea about the North N & arrow, text colour on the map itself...

That's the end to my modding (until someone else finds the location of the colours I can't change). :)

The dark brown scheme looks great at night and doesn't require me dimming the interior lights to be comfortable on the eyes. Of course when you do dim the interior lights it is very dark indeed.

Maybe I'm missing something, but how do you get the nav to have the angled view like you're behind it and following the marker?

eddytoo 07-02-2006 06:34 PM

I've been trying to alter the navboot file so that the system shows dutch texts. See post http://www.xoutpost.com/152693-post114.html

No luck yet, but already had two stuck disks in my nav drive.
First one got out with JV's "ignition-off/on-run-for-the-eject-button" trick. http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/all-...ion-drive.html

Second one wouldn't come out.
It's out now, here's how:

opened the lid of the nav drive
unscrewed 4 screws of drive mechanism
unplugged little 4 wire plug to motor
powered motor with 2 AA batteries

Voila, ejected disk.
Basically, its the lazy version of JV's trick #3.

Thanks for this great NAV tweak software ! I've also created a custom colour. A nice "i-drive like" greenish colour scheme. The problem I have is that the NAV wont take the upgrade since my NAV is already running the latest version.

I'm reluctant to go back a version and then load my modified version as this will switch my USA NAV coded MKIV back to the Euro mode. It causes issues with BMW Assist when I do that. Is there anyway to get round this, and force the MKIV to load the modified V27.1 onto a existing V27.1 ?

Thanks, Adrian
