Guy's, Thanks for all the information. Would upgrading to a Navteq 2008 DVD benefit me? I currently am using 2005.2 DVD.

Yes, but it's not out yet. 2.2007 is out and also would benefit you.

Read the Nav FAQ as the previous poster said, it will get you up to speed quickly. You can try burning the CD yourself to update your nav operating system to V31 or you can buy it for a few bucks on ebay.

Guys, looking at the above recent comments I think it's worth mentioning that map discs and Operating System (OS) discs are different things.

RacerX5 - you mentioned "original nav dvd", so from that I think you're talking about the map disc which stays in the unit all the time. These are released generally twice per year and eBay is a good source for these, or your local dealer of course. This thread is on the subject of v31, which is an OS update. In summary, the first post in this thread details where it can be downloaded, you burn that to a CD and run it in accordance with the OS update procedure which was kindly posted by ccfj1 in post 167 on the following link :

http://www.xoutpost.com/navigation-sy...ilable-17.html

This updates the nav unit's software and the map disc is then reinserted.

I thought it worth mentioning as it appeared that there was a little crossover confusion occuring.

The iDrive system is a completely different system from the MKxxx - in simple words, the MKIV/MKIII is based on the old Phillips CD-Interactive platform, whilst the iDrive is kind of based on Windows CE.

As far as I know, only the dealer can upgrade your system.

Ronald Pisano 03-29-2008 09:30 AM

Do you know or how can we know when updates are available to the Idrive system (Windows CE). My car being a 2006 is still under warrenty and the dealer did update it once but never told me what the revisions were. When I asked BMW for the revisions they were not aware of the revisions. How can I find when revisions come out.
