Lol, I don't like them either :)

Then drag and drop into the open UltraIso session (back where you found it, "V-2/RR/0101/BMWC01S/app_sw").

The nav unit doesn't allow it to "update" with the same software as already installed. So you have to fake the SoftwareVersion.
do the following: also extract the 2 .tbl files from the directoy:
<drive>:\V_2\RR\0101\BMWC01S
Open it in an HEX editor (like Freeware, PSPad PSPad - free unicode developer editor, handles near any syntax like HTML, PHP, XHTML, JavaScript, ASP, Perl, C and many other languages with HEX editor, multilanguage interface)

In the first line you find something like: 31 30 30 30 This means: 1000 So: Software-Version 10.00
Just edit the last 30 to 31 and you nav unit will think it's a new Software Version and you can update your v31without prior downgrade to V29

The next time you update, you can edit it back to 0800 then 0801 again...

Save the UltraIso image as v31.iso, then burn a cd ad 1x speed.

That's it.

Well I am good to the hex editing but I dont think I am using PSPad correctly... What exactly should I be opening in hex editor and what should I be extracting and from where? Sorry to be a pain bu got 3 hours in and this is just not coming easy...

Thanks, Kyle

These are the 2 files, drag and drop them out and then use psp to edit them (if you are just doing a os upgrade the dont bother with the lang_rel.tbl file)

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u...1/screen_1.gif

Open in hex editor and edit this value

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u...1/screen_2.gif

Then save them and put them back in the OS image (where you got them from) and the save, then burn the new image and install in the car.

We all start somewhere mate.

I am going to give all this a try tonight I think I see what I was doing wrong with the hex editor.

I did have one other question. I had no problem loading the new splash gif. However when I tried to change the the text strings to something like:
http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x...eptscreen2.jpg

Every time I then went to save the navboot, navtweak would crash wiping out the navboot file. Do I have to do something different to save after changing the text strings then I would after the splash gif? Again thanks for walking me through all of this.

Kyle

Only trouble is... it's a 4:3 screen, so it looks a bit squashed at the sides

The image is the OEM standard size for the unit, and is for both the mk3 and mk4.

To get it to stretch out you will need to upgrade to a mk4

To get it to stretch out, you need a 16:9 widescreen display, even with only a Mk3. But if you haven't got one of those, see below

It's not too bad actually...

If you haven't got a 16:9 screen, here's how to make an image look good on 4:3 screens:

1. Create your original image as a 400 x 312, or a multiple of that (800 x 624 also works, for example.)

2. When you've got that as you want it, resize it to 400 x 234. I use Paint.net - this is done via the resize option on the image menu. (untick "maintain aspect ratio" of course!) It will look stretched and out of proportion at this point. Then save it as a GIF.

3. Using Navtweak, replace the splashscreen in the usual way with the 400 x 234 GIF file you just made

4. When you install the new Nav OS, this distorted image automatically becomes squashed (as Ratty has discovered) back into the 400 x 312 proportions, so it looks as you intended.

All good fun!

Hope this helps
Graham

This is a modded version of the accept screen, it's not something we have in the UK, but try using navtweak2.6 (not 2.7) this may let you save.

Nice one Graham.

Like I said, you guys are GOOD... :)

Thanks Graham, I don't think I want to pull my dash apart to fit a 16:9 yet, I've only had the car for 3 months ... lol
And the Mk4's off the xmas list til I get another job.

ccfj1 I want to thank you one last time there is no way I would have figured this out without you. I am going to give 2.6 a try and see how that goes. If not oh well its only on there for 5 seconds anyways.

Cheers, Kyle

You will need to code your nav to Australia or US, I don't know what is involved but you'd think it wouldn't be too hard just to change the text on the warning screen? I'd like to see it done.
