That's a pretty big misnomer though. Lexus 3.0 V6 motors had a major fiasco a couple years bad - oil sludging problems. They did hide the problem pretty well and bought cars back. They even gave some customers brand new cars to keep CSAT surveys high. I did drive the 3.5l IS and that car definitely has more soul and power than the E90 330i... Well done on Lexus' part.

Very interesting. I think it's quite unfortunate that Lexus didn't offer the 350 with a manual transmission. That egine has some good technology/R&D behind it.

The IS350 has get-go, but the suspension still isn't up to BMW-par (3er).
I've browsed a few threads on Clublexus that hint towards a IS500 or 450 coming out that'll be more performance oriented.

The engines coming out are great, the body styles are good, but could be better (who could blame them, it's hard to be really good looking and fresh these days). The LS460 from what I hear is going to have another model above it called the LS600 which will have a hybrid engine attached to it for extra performance.

That'll be one heck of a car and I'm glad to see Lexus really ramping it up in the horsepower wars (albeit, a tad bit late). The 278hp or so in the LS430 really paled in comparision of the S500's 302hp and the 750's 345hp (I believe those are the numbers, just off the top of my head). Let's just hope the eight speed tranny doesn't go gear hunting when you floor it.

It does have a decent paddle shifter though, but you are right; no manual except on the IS250.

I think the M5 doesn't have a true manual either.. at least for a few more months. Due to demand I think they are going to bring a 6sp manual.

so what's a true manual?? SMG is a sequential box with no torque convertor.. the shifts are faster than anybody can shift. It's not like the MB slushboxes, or the lexus slushboxes...

That I agree with. The overall lexus package is quite good though.

Manual with a cluth.
I agree with you 100%; SMG can shift faster than a human. Isn't BMW moving to DSG for smoother shifts soon?

The IS350s "paddles" operate the automatic transmission. It's nothing more than tiptronic controls from the steering wheel.

Right, but it's not that bad of a slushbox compared to what Lexus has previously used (or at least I've used) and seems to respond quicker than AMG SpeedShift.
