Wow, thank you all so much for your input. It seems its going to be between an 06 RR SC and the X5 (4.4 or 4.8iS). I think we’ll know after taking the RR for a good spin. There’s a RR SC Limited Edition version with kickass options - 20” wheels, navi, adaptive xenon’s and lots more for 90K Euro’s . That’s how much he’d have to shell out for a 2005 4.4 X5. Still, a lot depends on the drive.

The G-Class and the ML AMG are out of his price range and the waiting list here is crazy.

There is the reliability issue of the RR but we’ll see. I do have to say one thing for the ML’s defense. The MB customer service is a lot better than BMW over here. My wife has an 06 A200 (which I don’t think is available in the US) and they treat her like a queen.

HI

I would say exactly the opposite over here. Mercedes have now got a bad name even the CEO said they have reliability issues, A friend who works for MB head office told me not to get an ML as they had serious problems. ALso I know mine was older but my RR was terrible it was in the shop more than on the road and this panel is not big enough to list all the faults. lets just list the big ones New engine (at 90000 miles I was told I must have had a good one as they would normally not last that long!) New gearbox which went again after 18 months, .... I could go on and usually do.

I have just got an X5 from a BMW dealer and might have been lucky but the experiences have all been good so far?

John

I'm not argueing the MB's reliability, but the customer service. The MB guys really go out of their way to please you. I know it might be just to cover up their internal problems but hey, my wife's happy.
BTW MB built a huge buildding over here making a new street called Daimler street.
I hope Jeremy was right about the RR being a new car and not completly a RR.

Here's another pic of the GL:
I actually saw the GL last wednesday driving to work. It was covered with large sized black tape all over on silver body. First I thought it was a Jeep commander or something. But when I passed it and saw the tristar on front that I realized its the Chrysler G-series made for Benz . Just like the R-class made by Chrysler for Benz on Pacifica chasis.

Decision made.

Hi guys, thanks again for all the comments. Kid bro signed a deal for a crazily loaded X5 4.4 in the “Individual” version. Carbon Black with cinnamon interior and the 4.8 wheels.
The X should be arriving in 4 weeks. Pics to come.

I love the RR's styling but wasn't blown away by the ride or supercharger. Why not wait for the AMG ML

it looks good as long as you never view it from the side...

AHHHHHH.... my eyes are burning! Must look away.

Well come on this is not Mercedes anymore, this is DaimlerChrysler.

Rule #1 - We will reuse a platform and body on as many vehicles as possible. So let's dig around in that Cherokee parts bin... ahhh there we go, modify this and we are a go.

Rule #2 - Be obvious, Very obvious. People are not going to read the brochure, so we have to show them that this vehicle has bigger tires.. FLARE IT!

Kind of looks like a Dodge G-Wagon with RR side vents... which brings us back to rule #1

Hey we may have found the perfect vehicle for Ajogu's brother
