CD-R Audio Disc Question

I regularly exchange home made "compilation" song CDs with one of my best buds, (and longest time friend on the planet). He recently sent me a CD-R that plays in my 'puter, and home CD player, but will not play in the X. It's a Memorex brand CD-R, 40x, 700 mb, 80 min.

I took that one and copied it again, in my 'puter, to a Phillips CD-R and now it plays in the X, (though I somehow lost the opening few notes of music on each song. WTF? )

Is it normal or common that some brand will not play in the X, but plays in my pos Dell 'puter player?

Memorex is poo. I have had more problems with those CDR's in my cars. Go with a Sony 700MB CDR. I haven't had any issues with them and in fact they also work in my wifes Accord which doesn't read any other type of CDR.

He might have burned the CD at 40x. If you burn the discs at too high a speed, they won't play. I usually burn the X's music at 8x.

I'm not a big fan of Memorex either. So so quality.

Funny, I've been burning to Memorex for about 4 years now and have never had a single CD not play in the car or anywhere else...

MD- what program are you burning with? Sometimes there's a setting to cross-fade the songs in playback mode on iTunes, Windows Media Player, etc. which might be your problem, and if you don't finalize your CD you may not be able to get it to play at all.

Here's a good read:

Why Can't I Play the CDs That I Burn?

Ray, & JV: Thanks for that link...interesting.
Jeesh H Murphy! Not a fookin clue...I have been using Roxio and then, Sonic programs back on the Mtn to burn CDs; never a prob.

On this new 'puter, I also use Sonic. My good friend and I burn for each other, but I've never had a prob. with his CD-R brand, nor he with mine. And, I've gotten Memorex from him before. It just wouldn't play in the X: I would insert it, nothing would happen and then it would say "CD Error" on the radio. My copy of his copy works, though I lost some opening notes on each track.

Confusing to me are the competing progs that come on new 'Puters: Sonic, MusicMatch, RealMedia, Windows Media Player, (which will not play vids for me at the moment), etc. What a fookin mess.

Don't know how to find the fade thing, and no IPod here, lol!
Hellsbells, I'm still "changerless" in the X and Vette.

Computers are marvey, but they drive me fookin nuts: glitches up the wazoo, things "change" over time, setting-wise, progs. work and then don't...if our car 'puters worked like a PC, one would be afraid to leave the garage.
