By the way, wasn’t there an outbreak of the swine flu 10 years back that started in some us based pig farms?
Should we call it the “American pig flu” instead of H1N1 then? Since the outbreak happened in the states?
How would that make some of us here feel?

No expert worth listening to refers to the virus by the name of the disease there is a distinct difference such as HIV the virus that causes AIDS.
Not all people that get infected by the virus will catch the disease that is caused by the virus so there needs to be a distinction or (just as right now) there is confusion.
If swine flu originated in a particular town near where I lived I would northeast absolutely ok with using a centurys old tradition that is logical and easy to understand even if; like in the case of the Spanish flu it was inadvertently attributed to Spain because they Reported it the most.
*some* of us would be offended by the logical naming of a virus I suppose that’s means they will be offended also by logic.
