The K12S is a great bike. Just picked mine up 2 weeks ago (replaces my 03 K12RS). They definitely made some improvements over the '05 model.
May not be the fastest bike out there, but it has enough power to satisfy all but the most hard-core speed junkie (0-60 in 2.8 seconds). It is also a lot more comfortable than many of the other sportbikes out there. Depending on where you live there may be a lot of BMW bikes or almost none. We only have one dealer on the west side of the state, so they are rare in West Michigan. Another option is the R1200S (for the boxer twin fan). Mine arrives at the end of the month..
