That morning, my recruits had PT (physical training). We came back to the barracks, and my Police Sergeant came in and told me that a "Cessna" had hit the WTC. My thoughts flashed back to the one or two times a teenager had stolen a Cessna/light plane, and crashed it somewhere. I shrugged it off to that sort of incident.

I went into my office and turned on the radio. That's when the news started rolling in.

Several hours later, we got the word down the chain of command that we were to inform our recruits - the whole truth (as we knew it at that time), no varnish, no nothing. My First Sergeant looked at me and asked, "Sir, who's going to do it?" I looked back at him and said, "Of course I'm going to do it."

I had the Drill Instructors assemble the recruits in one of the squadbays and sit them down. I don't remember exactly what I told them, but I remember verbally walking them through the timeline of the attacks. Then I told them that if any of them got it into their heads to exact a little revenge on one of their fellow recruits that was Muslim, that I'd have their heads. (Turns out none of them were Muslim, but I didn't know that at the time.)

Thank God none of those guys were from lower Manhattan. I told the DI's to put TV's out in their squadbays, and turn on a news channel.

We got through that day, and the boys had a new reason to finish boot camp. I remember telling them that our whole world had changed...

that day i was sitting in class when some kid runs in and say the pentagon was bombed. Then he says theres only one twin tower standing. The class and prof look at him like he has 3 heads and then we go outside and hear/see the disaster. It felt surreal we couldnt believe it. since then every day that I went into the city on the SI ferry I stare at a gap where the towers once gracefully stood, and thats a good reminder as any of what transpired that day and the kind of hatred that exists in people

We will not forget. I have the U.S. Flag flying outside my house. My X5 has the U.S. Flag as the hitch cover. I am wearing a U.S. Flag patterned tie today at work.

I remember that morning, I got up at 6AM (PDT) which was 9AM (EDT) and heard the radio stating there was a plane crash into one of the WTC tower. Turned on the TV and saw the 2nd plane hit the 2nd tower. I told my wife (who was working in L.A. at that time) to not go to work.

I went to work because my office is over 80 miles away from the major metro area. I remember seeing how very little traffic it was on the freeways.

We had a TV in our office and everyone was watching it in between patients.

I went home early because it was a light day and the freeways were pratically empty, all the malls were empty, parking lots were empty, no planes in the skies. It was quite eerie....

I remember the last time I was on top of the WTC was in 1990. I found pictures of myself and my family on top of the WTC back in 1977 and it is still hanging up at my office.

I had visited Ground Zero a few months later and I still remember that acrid smell.

I also have visited a memorial site in NJ which actually had steel pieces of the WTC erected.

We all prayed for all the family and friends who had loved ones that we lost in NY, DC, & PA on that terrible tragic day.

WE WILL NEVER FORGET!

May all those who lost their lives that day rest in peace. May their families and friends have peace in their lives as well.
