Yet, I have not read any reports of opposition being killed or jailed except for those who tried to overthrow the government in the 2002 coup. But then again, most of them have not been jailed either as they have been given assylum in the United States.

I wonder what would happed if Venezuela had given political assylum to a group that had tried to overthrow the government of the United States. What do you think we would have done?

Oh wait....nevermind....ignore that question....I forgot, but I can't possibly compare Venezuela to the United States. Silly me....
no you cant because here unlike there there is common sence, and if not then at least its covered up real well. regardless of who is getting killed where he has no right and no he doesnt have any rights in THIS country especially not to say what he said. I dont like Bush i think he's a shmuck but the fact that he is helping Israel when everyone else turned their back on them and the fact that he is trying to rid key word TRYING, the world of terrorists is well deserving of praise. anyone who doesnt like it here or abroad then why dont you take a look at what they did why not try living in fear of taking the train or driving through a tunnel or working on Wall Street and have to see the constant reminder of what happened 5 years ago but the ones or majority of the ones who are against his policies are yuppies who are against "war" yet they get all violent during protests funny aint it.

The caller and the talk-show host discussed it and both concluded that this means that both countries are "up to something" and perhaps plotting an attack on someone.

Apparently the United States is the only country allowed to open military bases in other countries around the world. When anyone else does it, it must mean they are "plotting something".

(BTW, I'm not sure if there was any truth to that story of Iran opening a base in Venezuela. It could just be right wing radio propoganda)
once again we strike for reasons they dont have any reasons, everyone in the world hates us and its not because of our president or his policies its because we are the wealthiest nation and everyone is jealous and wants to see us crushed. we must defend ourselves, quite frankly i could care less about venezuela or iran because they have nothing but hatred

I don't believe this at all. I think they despise us because they are aware that we acquired much of that wealth by looting the rest of the world. (BTW, when I say "we", I do not mean common Americans. I mean the large corporations)

The reason much of Latin America is poor is because of US policies during the 20th Century. Whenever one of these countries would try to have a democracy, the US military would step in and overthrow the elected leaders and install a corrupt puppet dictator who could then be bribed into giving all of his country's valuable land and resources to American corporations.

So now when these countries finally have democracy and their elected leaders attempt to take back that land and resources and give it back to the common people, they are called communists.

Well, I'm sorry but that is called "justice", not "communism".

Happy New Year to you too.

When are you moving to one of the third world countries, so you can help them in their struggle to be free and wealthy? Or is it easier to just be a beneficiary of the dirty filthy wealth of America, while you rail against it?

I'm not moving there, and I don't think I have benefited any. I think the elite wealthy have benefited, and I am certainly not one of them.

And I certainly support such governments as Hugo Chavez's and Evo Morales' who are taking back their country's resources from the foreignors who had no right to them in the first place.

I think Americans would act no differently if we were in their shoes.

Here's an example of what I am talking about:

You haven't benefited in any way? Really, name a few other countries that you can run with your commentary and not have any issue? Also, isn't it nice to have access to the Internet? And pretty cool to have enough cash to own a X5...I'd say you have benefited, as have the rest of us US citizens on here, very well.

Britain, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, France, Japan, Australia, Israel, Italy, Spain, Finland, New Zealand, Canada, South Korea, Holland, Belgium....

And I'm pretty sure that my political freedoms existed long before American corporations plundered Latin America.

I'm also pretty sure that overthrowing freely elected governments in nearby countries and installing ruthless dictators did not do anything to help political freedom anywhere in the world.

So you've listed how many out of the total countries in the world? Hmm, China isn't on that list and how many people are there? You sound a little like GW trying to say we have a huge coalition of countries in the middle-east working on Iraq.

You said "name a few". Did you want me to list them all?

Venezuela is a country were you CAN indeed speak out against the government. If you watched any sort of television during the recall election 2 years ago, you saw the tens of thousands of people protesting against Chavez in very large protests, very similar to the large protests against Bush here in New York this past week.
