If that was true, why was Reid quoted on the teams website discussing the comments by McNabb? Get Eric in here, smells like a team coverup. Bottom line, McNabb should have never made ANY comment at all. He should have known, as a franchise player, that any comment on his part would be blown up by the media. He also needs to keep a lid on his MOM.

---
Head coach Andy Reid said Tuesday that he was "disappointed" in published reports that claim franchise quarterback Donovan McNabb is unhappy with the Eagles organization and uncertain about his future in Philadelphia.

"I hate to see people have to make things up that aren't really true," Reid said in a conference call from the Senior Bowl in Mobile, AL. "He (Donovan) knows what's the truth and what isn't the truth. I'm not worried about that."

Despite the speculation, Reid stands by his decision to cancel McNabb's press conference that was scheduled for last Friday.

QB Donovan McNabb
"It was my choice, not Donovan's choice," Reid said. "I don't feel any different."

A couple of different reports have said that McNabb has been at odds with the team regarding issues ranging from his post-surgery rehabilitation to his standing in the locker room to the fact that he was not taken on the team charter for the playoff game in New Orleans.

The widely-read Web site, ProFootballTalk.com had this report over the weekend: "As we hear it, McNabb was at some point determined to be behind schedule in his recovery from season-ending surgery to repair the injury that he suffered against the Titans. And McNabb has, on at least one occasion, blamed the delay on well-respected trainer Rick Burkholder.

"There's a school of thought that Eagles coach Andy Reid put the kibosh on McNabb's recent press conference due in part to concerns that McNabb would blab about the brouhaha.

"Complicating matters is the fact that the players have a strong affinity for backup Jeff Garcia, who led the team to a berth in the divisional playoffs. An industry source tells us that guys like tackle Jon Runyan and linebacker Jeremiah Trotter, both members of Reid's 'veterans' committee,' have expressed strong support for Garcia."

Then, a column in The Trenton Times cited "people close to" McNabb as saying he "is not pleased with a lot that has happened since he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in a loss to Tennessee on Nov. 19."

At the time of the injury, McNabb had been near the top of the league's charts in passing yards (2,647), touchdown passes (18), and QB rating (95.5). Along the way, he became the seventh player in NFL history to throw for 20,000 yards and rush for 2,500 more.

The story continued ...

"The franchise quarterback's unhappiness includes the fact head coach Andy Reid did not allow him to travel to the team's playoff game in New Orleans. There is a team rule that players on injured reserve do not travel ...

"McNabb also may be getting a vibe that some in the organization prefer (Jeff) Garcia over him. Lastly he was not pleased with the way his mother, Wilma, has been portrayed by Eagles fans and the local media for her blog on his Web site in which she stated that watching the Eagles win without her son 'is bittersweet.'"

Garcia was a more-than-sufficient replacement for the injured McNabb down the stretch. In seven games (6 starts), he threw 10 touchdown passes and only two interceptions on 188 attempts. Most importantly, he led the Eagles to a 5-1 record and an NFC East division championship.

The story went on to indicate that rumors are surfacing that McNabb or Garcia could land in Minnesota or Tampa Bay before next season.

Reid was not asked about that particular rumor. But he did reiterate his displeasure with the reported speculation over McNabb and his status with the team.

"I'm disappointed that people are making things up. That's the part I'm disappointed in," Reid said. "I think that people are making a lot of things up here that aren't true."

Totally agree... sometime people, players, coaches, etc just need to learn when to keep their damn mouths shut because of media reaction and how it is blown up. And when it comes to sports, or anything, people need to keep their damn parents out of it. I hate parental interference and it's the one thing that would stop me from ever being any sort of coach.

Hopefully McNabb will worry more about his knee then the press (and that goes for his mom too).

After reading the C&P art, on Reid, (thanks Ryan), I
am impressed with Andy's balls and gumption...

I don't care if it was McNabb or Joe Namath or
Johnny U, in their primes; stfu, get on your re-hab
and tell your blood squeezing, money grubbing freakin
agent, to quit playing Svengali and stirring the pot.

These pros, gifted in a specific game, all come to think
of themselves as above it all, erudite philosophers and,
of real import to the world situ. Sit down and stfu, imo.

There, I feel better, lol!

Has McNabb ever been quoted as saying anything or is this all from 'people close to McNabb'? McNabb has been a class guy for the most part and prior to the injury was having a MVP type year.

Hard to believe some of this stuff and it would be interesting to hear more info about who Reid was talking about 'making things up'. The media is interesting to say the least.

If I was McNabb, I would worry about my rehab and being ready/able to play next year. If not the Eagles, he'll be paid well to play someplace. Although Garcia had a good run, I wouldn't make him my man - look at how he did in Cleveland.

Cleveland - no west coast offense
Philly - uses west coast offense

There's why Garcia didn't do well when traded from the 49ers and why he did well in Philly.

According to Garcia though when he was on Jay Leno, he's looking forward to what March will bring with free agency. I have a feeling if the Eagles want to keep him, it's going to be a difficult sell.

The Eagles definitely want him, the fans would go nuts if McNabb got hurt, yet again, in 2007 OR if McNabb can't perform....and Philly is forced to rely on yet a different backup.

When AJ Feeley stepped in he did a great job a few years back but he was nothing like Garcia. Two teams looking for a QB right now are Tampa Bay and Minnesota. Keep in mind that if McNabb was sub-par, Brad Childress (former O-coordinator of Philly) is the head coach of Minnesota.

Oakland need a QB as well, as there is a lot of debate as to whether or not Byron Leftwich, David Carr, Charlie Batch, and Alex Smith did enough this past year to retain their starting jobs. And Atlanta might have reached the end of the line with Vick.

Garcia on the Jaguars is a interesting proposition. They are only a few pieces short from being a playoff team.

The Eagles already have a replacement for Garcia. His name is Coy Detmer...

There are a few potential starting QB openings out there, and a few talented QB's. I guess I have a traditional view that a player should not lose a starting spot due to injury (i.e. Leftwich, McNabb). However, these situations due show how important it is to have a viable back-up. Eagle should do everything they can to keep Garcia and let the two compete for the starting role. If Garcia outperforms, then he get's the job. However, going into camp next year, it should be McNabbs to lose.

As much of a pain Vick may be, he still brings fan's in and until they have a viable QB to replace him, they have to stick with him. Other players have caused a lot more off-field disruption than Vick.

Also, must consider a few good QB's coming into the leage this year Brady Quinn, Troy Smith etc... Brady could make an immediate impact on the right team, although troy won the award, not sure if he'll fair as well.

Actually his replacement is A.J. Feeley and Oakland is putting a trade together to offer ATL of Porter/Moss & 1st round pick for Vick.

Jaguars are far from Superbowl ready and Garcia is too old to learn a new team and give it 3 years of work.
