There was an article in the paper the other day saying that the Duhlans are considering taking Cablevision private, the stock jumped 16%.

The Town of North Hempstead on LI is completely wired for FIOS as is Bergen NJ and a couple other counties in NJ. I'm looking forward to dumping Cablevision as soon as possible. If I could figure out a way to get the diretcv wires into my garage/patch panel without having to cross my neighbors roof (townhouse) I'ld have gone back to Directv already. Screw the Dolans, they ruined NY sports.

How are these companies affording all the expensive equipment and wiring for Internet? I mean doesn't the existing infrastructure have to be upgraded or has Cable been able to do this the whole time???

I can't say I would be buying a lot of Cable stock right now....talk about debt!

Cable TV providers make a TON of money, as does Verizon. Verizon is basically running fiber optic cable in parallel to their copper AND running the Fiber to every house. Considering the age of a majority of the copper wiring that is currently in place, Verizon probably had the fiber replacement plan in the works for a very long time and was just waiting for it to be cost effective to implement. Cablevision has been laying fiber in the NY/NJ/CT areas for years and is just now getting the digital service rolled out on it.

We have Verizon FIOS where we live and it's 15 Mbps download/ 2 Mbps upload.
Cost is $44.95 a month.

Curious what this wireless deal of mine does...
though, Anyfreakingthing is better than the 19000 bps I had for the past 3+ years, here. I miss my ol'DSL back in NewYawk.

I tried several of the sites listed on the "next page", as the 3 or 4 sites on main page were all busy. Interesting how I get diff readings from each test. I dumped tempfiles and had nothing else on, for each test. My "best" was 878 kbps dwn and 1120 kbps upload.

Not rocket fast, but light years ahead of the dial up, 19kbps w/constant disconnects, tin cans & string deal I was putting up with before. Thanks, again J!

No, not yet. Was told it's in the work and should be ready within 6 to 9 mos.
