Cruise Control in Rain

So I just got a forward of a forward email. Basically its this long story about this woman who hydroplaned her car and it "took off like a rocket." The patrol man at the scene said it was because her cruise control was on, so the car just kept spinning the wheels to keep the speed, thus when the wheels lost contact with the road, they shot the car off.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isnt this what traction control takes care of? It should sense when a wheel is just spinning and remove power from that wheel.

Or is this true and we really shouldnt use traction control in the rain?
