How long till we pull out of Iraq?

http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/meast/...ain/index.html

How many US troops have to die in the Iraqi civil war?

Maybe never. There are 17 perminant military bases which have been built, or are currently being built. We still haven't pulled out of Japan & Korea, and those wars ended more than 50 years ago.

The answer is that we will pull out when we are forced to leave (i.e. defeat), and if that never happens, we will never leave. Too much money is being made by having this war continue. It costs around $2 billion per week to keep the war going, and most of that money goes to military contractors.

In the case of Japan and Korea those nations have stabilized, in Japan's case (with US rebuilding) it is a very successful country. I don't see that happening in Iraq.

It will never happen. They own too many politicians (yes, Democrats too) for that to ever be allowed to happen.

Here's another question,

If we do pull out, how quickly before we have to go right back?

A war in the Middle East is not about when, it's about where.

I have no doubt, we will, sometime, in the not so distant future, pull our troops from Iraq. But I also have no doubt, we'll be going right back. For the last 50+ years, Israel has largely been doing the fighting for the US, democracy, western civilization, in that region. Now our hands are dirty too.

Pulling troops out of Iraq will not end any war, it will just reposition it.

We are not fighting an offensive war. We are fighting a defensive war on other people's soil.

Just to show you how ludicrous of an idea this is, name some wars not including the US & Israel, where one of the countries involved was fighting a defensive war on the other country's soil. There have been hundreds of wars in history, so surely you can name a few where this was the case.

Yet with every invasion that has ever taken place, the invading country always claims they are doing so for defensive reasons. That is what Germany said when they invaded Poland, Austria and Czechoslovakia. That is what Saddam Hussein said when Iraq invaded Iran, and later Kuwait. That is what the Soviet Union said when they invaded Afghanistan. And the list goes on....

When you invade another country, you are on the offense, not the defense. The country you are invading is on the defense. That is how it works. If you want a good defense, then you keep your troops on your own soil and guard your borders and air space. Invading other countries never helps to protect your own country. If anything, it angers people and creates more enemies.

Sometimes you need to go to war to defend allies, precious commodities and maintain geo-politics. The world is a big place and sometimes events take place which threaten to destabilize the political/economic framework of society. Like it or not we have an interest in how these political and economic events play out, thus our involvement.

Translation: Sometimes we need to kill hundreds of thousands of people in a foreign country so that the wealthiest few Americans can get wealthier.
