Is anyone watching the women's college world series?
those kids can play some ball. it is fun to watch - check it out if you get a chance. if you do watch, keep in mind the mound is only 43' away, so a 68 mph fastball is like 100 mph in baseball. |

Yes and this is the first time for me watching and wasn't even aware that there was something like this... They're really competetive and the pitchers are really good!
Just can't comprehend how they can pitch back to back days even having a total pitch count of 150+ the previous day... Don't they have other pitchers on the team to rotate?

Not that i really care anymore but it is NOT the WORLD series. Sure some of these players maybe the best on the planet but a WORLD competition is only when u have teams from other countries represented. But to call it the WORLD series is just typically american but that isn't necessary a derogatory comment. We're proud to call it the world series.
The typical american would respond with "but we are the best in the world" - looks to me like there have been some recent lessons learned in basketball and baseball Last edited by soccerjunky; 06-03-2007 at 05:09 PM. |

it is the College World Series.
the real world series is the Olympics. but, since the americans were dominating it, they dropped it from the olympics. now, they have organized a real world series, mostly of pro-level players, that plays every year, in an effort to get the olympics folks to see the level of worldwide support the sport has. as far as pitching, the legs actually get tired before the arm. the underhand motion is a lot less wear and tear on your shoulder than the overhand in baseball. that said, my 13 year old is a pitcher. she can throw 2 games back-to-back worth of about 70-80 pitches, but gets pretty weak by the end of the second one. if she does that, she's aching the next day. i don't know how they go day after day after day like that. i guess they train like crazy at that level. most teams have a senior stud pitcher that they ride come post-season. |

The US college open would be a better name. So it has worldwide support ? where are the foreign players and why host it in OKC. I'm not sure other countries have that many 'large' female athletes. The sport has been around for decades - When i was in college my school (St. Marys - San Antonio) won the ladies national tournament - NAIA(1986 i think) . I went to the tournament as well so i do appreciate the sport but it's still not a world series or world anything.
Also saying that a team dominates a team sport at the olympics can be misleading. Some countries don't sent there best pros or any pros at all. Soccer is one of the prime examples where none of the pros care bout the olympics Last edited by soccerjunky; 06-03-2007 at 06:53 PM. |

look, i didn't name it, and i really could care less if someone else thinks it should be named something else.
the point of it is that these young women are fantastic athletes. your gripe about the name diminishes that fact. since i have 3 daughters playing this sport, and i coach a competitive travel team, it's interesting to me. i learn alot by watching it. i am not sure why exactly you want to argue with me about the name of the event. write the ncaa if you don't like the name. |
