Ok, lets take a step back here.. When we say recreational drugs, are we just talking about the so called drugs that our gov't has deemed illegal? Or are we also talking about the drugs that are heavily taxed and forced down our throats?
1) Is alcohol a recreational drug? 2) Is tobacco a recreational drug? 3) Is caffine a revreational drug? 4) What about xanax? valium? vicodin? etc. Because in the real world, the world that we all live in.. Yes, all of those things are recreational and are also considered drugs.. All you wine drinkers, beer guzzlers, cigar smoking, pill poppers... Guess what, YOU TOO ARE RECREATIONAL DRUG USERS.. So now lets take the legal drugs out of the equation. I don't want to bother having a discussion with anyone who will argue that alcohol is not bad for you but Marijuana is. Don't waste my time. That argument is just STUPID. Not to mention in California, marijuana is LEGAL.. Yes folks, for those of you that don't know it, many of us California residents can walk into a store and legally buy marijuana. All you need is a prescription which is as easy to get as asking for tylenol or any other pain relief medication (which marijuana is, a pain relieving medicine..) So now lets talk about the so called HARDER DRUGS: Ecstasy seems to be a popular drug for us to discuss. Statistically your chances of getting hurt of dying from a hit of MDMA is much less significant than going out for a night of binge drinking. See chart: ![]() As far as cocaine, crystal meth, heroine, crack, etc. That stuff is just bad. Stay away from it and people who use it.. But I want to say loud and clear. MDMA and Marijuana are not statistically dangerous drugs, they should both be legalized, taxed and controlled. -- And if my memory serves me correctly, there has never been a reported death caused by an ecstasy overdose. All deaths attributed to ecstasy have been from fake pills, drug mixing, BUT MOSTLY, people sometimes die from dehydration from dancing too much.. So drink some water..!! (Before 9/11 I was working on a documentary about RAVE laws and Club Drugs.. So I am somewhat familiar with the subject..) B

But just for arguement sake, lets go back and read the article you quoted: "As the party progresses, Leah drinks at least several alcoholic beverages, smokes some pot, and takes a pill of 'ecstasy'..... Ok, point one. You can not blame this death on ecstasy any more than you can blame it on alcohol. It clearly says, she had SEVERAL drinks. Not one, not two, not three, but SEVERAL drinks. Then she smoked some pot. Anyone who has ever gone to college can tell you what happens to your mind and body after you drink SEVERAL drinks then smoke some pot. Yehaa.. -- Then to boot, she's drunk, she's stoned, "Hey, I have an idea, lets chase it with some MDMA!" Don't need a crystal ball to figure out what happens next. Girl gets paranoid, then drinks TWO GALLONS of water in 1.5 hrs. (Think about what a gallon of milk looks like in grocery store!) -- Girl dies from water-overdose... News media reports a national and worldwide epidemic of young girls dying from ecstasy. Anybody with 1/2 a brain knows that people don't dehydrate from Ecstasy, they dehydrate from the activity's associated with ecstasy like: Sweating from dancing, being in hot rooms, walking, running and generally exerting energy of all forms. ((Not that I've ever taken any drugs but I have heard from friends who have... Dancing is a bi-product of taking ecstasty. It is the bodies desire to expel energy.. So people take E and they naturally feel the URGE to dance. Dancing equals sweat, sweat equals drink.- The people who are unaware of this, have no business experimenting with anything, including alcohol (eat food before you drink.) or smoking (don't smoke if you want to be an athlete..) I am sorry about your friend in H.S. - I know of many people in college who died of alcohol related deaths, but I'm not about to rip the glass of wine out of your hands because of it. If your going to do drugs, take the time to educate yourself. Don't just give in to the "REEFER MADNESS" disinformation hysteria. And for crying out loud, surround yourself with people who have good sense and judgement. B

. In addition, a couple of doctors through abuse of perscription drugs such as vicodin including the chief of surgery at local emergency room who was on drugs while he worked .I can't say the same for pot or ecstasy but that may be just the people I know.

But I also want to say, I am by no means stating that ecstasy and or marijuana might not have some bad effects.. That it is COMPLETELY benign.
- But like anythink else in life, sun bathing, exercise, listening to loud music, dieting, eating, etc.. taken in MODERATION, is very unlikely going to seriously hurt you. There are people out there who have addictive personalties and other people out there that are always trying to push the envelope. And people CAN and DO go too far. But as long as you use some judgement, I would argue that dropping a hit of acid, going to a Grateful Dead show and dancing on a grassy nole, is not going to end you up on the 5th floor of the psychiatric ward. However, taking a hit of acid every day for 3 months, might! You will probably wind up in a room with the alcoholic girl who thinks she can lose weight by drinking her body mass in vodka. B

'Fraid I'll just have to disagree with you on drug use being ok, at any level.
