I still think it's absolutely rude not to say a thing. Especially after you ruin someones car like an asshole.

Hey Creamy,
Sorry to hear about your X. Cars are just material. You should be glad you are ok and can still stalk me.

Laura, I didn't see where it was mentioned. Was the guy who hit you insured? Find the best quality body shop that you can find, one that uses OEM parts, and replaces (as oppose to fixes) damaged parts. If you can't find one, maybe somewhere here can recommend one. You should be able to get two adjusters to look at your car - one from his insurance company and the other from yours. In this situation, your insurance company should be on your side this time, protecting your interests as their client and should be supporting the best possible claim on your behalf. They should work towards ensuring that your X5 performs as good as before it was hit, or they should push the other insurance company to total it. Take as many pictures as you can, from all sides of the car, under the hood, and underneath the car when it goes up on the rack. If the discussion with the insurance companies gets hung up for any reason, post the issues here. If you want to wait for the X6, but don't want to get a short term lease for an X5, then go a completely different route for the next 2 years. Go rent a 335i sedan which are plentiful and have decent lease rates. You'll lose alot of utility space, but I guarantee you that you'll look forward to those freeway on ramps every morning. After the 2 yr lease is done, the X6 should be on the market. Or take the plunge and get that M6... |

I tried to get on the floor this morning to see what it looked like underneath but really didn't see anything. I don't want to try opening the hood. I'll call Open Road in the morning and have it towed to their body shop. They've done work on my brother's 7 and have done a good job. Yes the other guy has insurance, I'm not sure how much he's covered for but he has it.
My adjuster called this morning and was trying to get me to take the X to one of their network body shops. They have prearranged rates bla bla bla, the work is guaranteed so if there is any issue upon lease turn in, they cover it. I'm not liking that idea. I'll stick with the dealer thank you very much.

glad to hear that you're ok L! The X looks totaled from that picture (make sure your insurance co think the same way too) but there are so many good choices in cars right now that either way you'll come out ok. best of luck.

That's a good idea taking it to Open Road. Before the car gets hauled to the body shop, see if Open Road can get a Master Tech to look at your X5 to write up what mechanicals need to be replaced, especially front and rear suspension. Body shop guys are not good at assessing mechanical damage.
Your insurance company, at this point, is an interested 3rd party. At this point, it's between you and the other guy's insurance company. His insurance company should be covering it 100%. |
