I did my upgrade yesterday. No hiccups at all but I only had iToner as my added 3rd party software.

My son had the install/apptap software hack and his iPhone was loaded with all kinds of software. His update went alright except that he lost all the 3rd party apps as expected. His iPhone was a locked phone with At&T though.

I heard from a few people that this is just a temporary setback for the unlockers/hackers. On the other hand, Apple executed another brilliant and free advertising with this hoopla. Negative or not, the iPhone brand is now as recognizable as the iPod. Each time I pull out my iPhone to take or receive a call I always get the "is that the iPhone?" comment.

I'm on the downside of my contract with my Palm 700P. If i could get out early i might try it. Other wise i may wait. There is the problem though of reception. Verizon is better where i am for now.

I've never had a cell phone at all or an Apple computer but that iPhone is really cool. When the next gen comes around I just might get one.

I just think it's too bad Apple tries to control how people use it so much. Forcing one to use AT&T as the service provider sucks. IMO they ought to unlock the damn thing themselves and ditch the proprietary service provider.

You must know a lot of people to be able to make that claim.

Trouble? What trouble? I don't have any trouble. 20 or 30 other employees where I work that do what I do don't have any trouble. I even build my own home computer using whatever parts I desire (usually the better ones). I still don't have any trouble. I've been running this one for 2 1/2 years and havn't had any trouble and I don't have to hack it to do what I want either.

Apple computers won't even do what I need them to do. I guess that's thanks to Apples' "proprietary software master" that hasn't developed even one program that does what I need it to. With my PC I have an abundance of programs to choose from to accomplish my work or play, and they don't have stupid names like "Quark" either.

If I had an Apple computer I'd be crying because it wouldn't run the programs I wanted or needed to run, at least not without having to install good 'ole Windows. So WTF's the point of owning an Apple? So "You can ONLY do these things" or "You can ONLY load OUR programs" or "Here, buy one of our computers for twice as much and then spend some more money so you can run Windows and do what you need to do"

(End of Hijack... )

Same with the iPhone. Though I do think it's pretty cool I'm guessing that's why Apple puts an "i" in front of everything
