The facts I posted are no big secret. Get an encyclopedia and a dictionary. If you need help looking up a specific part, let me know and I'll point you to an online link. But no, I'm not going to spend my time giving references for stuff that can easily be found.

As for Vietnam, North Vietnam was a communist democracy. I suppose one could twist the facts and say the US was fighting against democracy and trying to establish a dictatorship in Vietnam. The US was indeed responsible for cancelling elections in South Vietnam in 1956 -- obviously done because it was clear that Ho Chi Minh was going to defeat Diem in the elections and win by a landslide as he had done in the North.

But one look at US foreign policy in this time period shows they were never opposed to democracy in foreign countries, as long as they were capitalist. So I think a much better case can be made that the war was a fight against communism. If that meant that democracy would be defeated as well, then so be it. But the main focus was clearly the economics, not the politics.

Being born and raised muslim, I can promise you that 99.5% of the rest of the Muslim population feel the same way about those same lunatics, therefore would let everyone draw their own conclusion.

If the 99.5% feel the way you say, why won't they speak out? Are you saying that the Western media is supressing their voices?

as mentioned above the thread title is in "poor taste" imo.
i am so proud in numerous ways to be american but times of ignorance i am not. while in europe i have come across many muslims who are happy/wonderful ppl (especially once ramdan was over

), and not "extremists" at all. albeit they face prejudices every day bc of their religion and the lack of integretion in countries they now call home.

it's not a question about TJ sitting on the fence. but more of an issue of the american ppl wanting to categorize everthing that is wrong in the world to a small % of ppl.

there are plenty of issues that we don't stand up for...this is one of many.

off my soapbox now...
