I was just reading an article on signonsandiego.com, I must say Our city has handled this WAY better then New Orleans in Katrina, We had a larger evacation, we got out faster, complained less and only 4 reports of looting, PERIOD, It seems we did a much better job 10 fold then those during Katrina

Truer words have ne'er been spoken!

California (at all levels) deserves a lot of credit for their handling of the emergency. The loss of life would have been exponentially higher except for it!

the big difference is that neighbors were able to help neighbors in SD, that's not true in NO, everyone was creamed. It's a huge difference. (fyi, i agree with most of your points, but it's hard to ignore the fact that EVERYONE in N.O. was flooded out, with few exceptions, AND they couldn't drive anywhere because of the water, and they didn't have much notice that the flood was coming.

Wow, I just heard this on the news over here. They said you guys haven't had rain since April and it will take a minimum of 10 days to control the situation.
I thought the fires in Greece were bad but this takes the cake. All the best to you guys.

True gresch, NO didn't have notice a flood was coming or the levees would give.... but they did have notice a Cat 4 hurricane named Katrina was bearing down on them. Just played devil's advocate. Both situations are/were awful.

Updates.

Several Evacuations Have Been Lifted (RB, Poway, Rancho Penasquitos (yay my home!!!) and 4S Ranch

RB homeowners are only allowed 10 mins with a national guard to recover belongings at this time

Traffic was snarled because the resident POS, I mean President Bush was "touring" the site, what a waste of time, if he would have stuck away like people wanted they could have been in their homes by now *shakes head*

Yes a lot of credit is due.

But no comparison can be made to Katrina because even though there were many fires the infastructure in SoCal was still in place and accessability to services were avaliable. In NO the entire infastructure collapsed and none of this was avaliable.

I will say this though. I do find it interesting that to this day many places in NO still have received little or nothing in the way of relief.
