GA S. Ct. orders Wilson's release from prison

Even the legislator who drafted the law did not intend for this to happen. They quickly changed the law, which was applied prospectively and not retroactively.

Mkes you wonder about the ability of the government to protect us from ourselves, doesn't it?

Absolutely. This was an ill-drafted law.

Actually, it makes me wonder about the ability of a bunch of southern religious fanatics to protect us. I think the state governments we have up here in the North do just fine. What worries me is when those religious fanatics and fascists start having too heavy of an influence in Washington.

I don't think it has anything to do with the south or religion. It is just a bad law. You'd be amazed at some of the laws on the books in your own state. Mostly are old and antiquated and are inapplicable to today's society. For instance:

New York:
Women may go topless in public, providing it is not being used as a business.

A fine of $25 can be levied for flirting.

The penalty for jumping off a building is death.

New Jersey:
Drivers must warn those who they pass on highways before they do so.

It is illegal to wear a bullet-proof vest while committing a murder.

Automobiles are not to pass horse drawn carriages on the street.

While the term isn't correct, I'd call this a racist comment.

(And I'm a Yankee.)

But I suppose if I called a group of people "Middle Eastern religious fanatics" (as opposed to southern), then that wouldn't be racist?

Keep in mind I didn't say (or even hint) that all southerners are religious fanatics. But those in favor of a 10 year prison sentence for a kid who had oral sex with his consenting girlfriend -- yes, they definately are religious fanatics.

You lumped all southern elected officals into one group (or at least, all Georgian).

I also find it interesting that this is a clear case of religious fanaticism - that's what I meant by saying you're being racist. You clearly implied that northerners wouldn't have such a law - because they're not religious fanatics. I'm sure the Shakers, Quakers, etc would be amused...

Some of the Middle Eastern and Central Asian countries like Yemen, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, etc...those countries have laws that provide for the death penalty if a woman cheats on her husband and other such fanatical things.
