Question What's up with Blackberry outages?

I know many people who rely on their BlackBerry to get their e-mails! They have had a two outages with in a one year period which I understand can occur....but that is the trouble with relying on one company to deal with e-mails.

RIM is a victim of their own sucess....an outage is really a widespread problem for the whole country...

As much as the new Blackberry's look great, I am still not convinced on relying on one company to service all your e-mails, text messages, and voice mails. I'm glad no one lost their e-mails.

The scary part is that RIM doesn't know why it happened...

I was one of those affected; roughly 3:30pm to 10:30pm last night. Yes, the BB Pearl would have been affected too.

I don't agree with the original post. RIM may know why it happened --- they just haven't publicized the reason yet. The large company that I work for is a big user of BB's and is waiting for the root cause analysis from RIM.

E61Silver is an unknown quantity at this point
As a Verizon user Blackberry is about the only may to go for a smart phone.

The problems that I had with a Windows based PDA was so bad that this outage means nothing.

Oh. A friend of mine has the Pearl and was having issues with it earlier this morning.

Oh, it's possible there may still be issues. I have had no issues since around 10:30pm last night. Email after email continues to arrive

twice in 12 months is nothing, back in the day it used to be once a month.

We're looking at ms mobile based devices as an alternative now. The mail doesn't flow through rim/bberry and we have more control. And we don't have to pay maintenance on the bes server sw or devices.

should be interesting.

Agreed! I would never give up my BB for a PDA for as long as I need easy email access.

Well, my old VZW Treo 700p is still working fine ....Chatteremail (IMHO, much better e-mail program than any other smartphone, including BlackBerry) is still working and have no problem with my POP e-mail accounts or my IMAP Idle accounts (true push e-mail). Plus, my phone service, voice mail, and text messaging is working fine.
