Beautifully puppy Kevin.. It's funny that you got bit on the nose this weekend. So did I.. That's why I made that joke about getting the nose bit..

As you can see, my pup, now 4 months, is getting bigger as well.

She is a Portuguese Water Dog, with wavy coat and white Irish markings.
They also come in curly coat but I'm 100% partial to the wavy..

(she's the same breed as my 12 year old girl sitting next to her.)

This was about 6 weeks ago.

I love dogs and could get attached to something like that. But alas i have no time as it is, so let me just say she's looks extremely desirable even though I'm not familiar with the breed.

Well then, let me tell you about the breed

The Portuguese Water Dog (they were just called Water Dog's at this point.) were used during the Spanish Armada. The dog was a working breed and often, the large ships in the Armada would have a bunch of them on board that they used as water messengers.

They were used to swim messages back and forth between ships. They have webbed feet and the dogs can swim 5 miles in a warm sea.

When the ships would get into battles with the enemy, the ships would sometimes sink (get shot down). Since a lot of these battles happened off the coast of Portugal, the dogs would swim to shore and were even reported to have saved sailors lives by swimming them in.

The dogs were then adopted by the very poor Portuguese fisherman who lived on the coast. They quickly found out that the dogs were extremely intelligent and hard working. So they started bringing them out on the small fishing kayak's.

The dogs became so useful on the kayak's they were given full time jobs. If they saw a school of fish, they would jump in the water and herd the fish into the nets. If the nets broke, they would jump in and retrieve the nets. The dogs were even capable of catching fish in their mouth. They can dive up to 15ft.

If the fisherman needed to send a note to his family, he would send the dog to shore with a note in a little carrying case.

The dogs were responsible for vastly improving the quality and quantity of the catch and overall improving the life of the fisherman. They became so important to these villages, they actually were given a salary (portion of the fish catch) equal to the humans for their work.

They are extremely intelligent, hard working, athletic, loyal, protective and easy to train.

Maggie is 4 months and she already: gives paw, speaks on command and rolls-over.

The reason no one has ever heard of the Portuguese Water Dog is because they were almost extinct. As technology and long line commercial fishing became standard, the dogs were needed less and less.

At one point, there only 50 of them in existence. That's how close to extinction they were. They are now abundant and have been saved, but they are not in massive numbers like other more popular breeds..

I love my Portuguese Water Dogs

That Dane is huge. I like the first picture which she was "eye to eye" with the Dane - that look is precious.

Everyone's pups are nice! If you had a chance would you clone them or with all your pets...which one would you clone?
