New England is nice.

Move to NH if you don't like to pay taxes though, ME taxes blow and the roads have been damaged so badly, they are shutting down I-95 this summer... sh*t. Tourist season (big downside IMO) .

The lifestyle is great though, Portland and Portsmouth are very laid back, and if you aren't tied to an office, downeast ME or the islands provide a great place to live that has little snow (3 feet in Portland, nothing in the Rockland area). its always 10º warmer in the winter and 10º colder in the summer on the islands in Casco Bay. You can go from a 4,000 footer to your sailboat in the course of an hour. Not too shabby.

Biggest downside: One BMW dealer in the state

good luck whatever you decide.

RE moving to east coast

I'm Filipino as well and have lived in Mid west, So. east coast and travelled a couple of states before settling down.
In my case most of my moves ware job directed but I also considered family, then preference of area.
I loved and hated CA before having lived in SF and LA in early 90's then I moved again to east coast. Now I'm back in a nicer part of LA.
I'm in the healthcare field too btw and also tried IT informatics but it's not a click in so east coast.
Being a FIlipino I prefer warm weather and tropical in nature.
This made me home sick in mid west and northern east coast.

For those people that have chimed in for NC...I agree! It seems that it's an ideal place for hightech jobs. Also, it's close enough to run up to NE and SE states. IT jobs seems to me is a job where you can go anywhere you want. I wished my job was easily tranferable...good luck. Heck, even check out Walt Disney, they probably need IT folks like crazy...

PS - PA is a dead market for IT jobs...DE is a little bit better for the Healthcare/Banking industry.

Does anybody have any recomendation in terms of not too high cost of living and weather not too extreme (snow particularly)?

+1. I wouldn't want to live there, ever. I don't like living in places where the median age is a hundred and sixty-twelve (like Charlottesville). Plus, no one can drive properly there.

Fancy accomodations don't necessarily make my life easier to live. I'm not fooled by fancy pools and luxuries. I kinda just want some peace & quiet.

Like mD's house in NC, for instance. Minus the mountains.
