Geez, just use premium. I cannot understand why this is so difficult for some folks to grasp. It's as simple as "Wear your seat belt" or "Don't talk on the mobile phone while driving".

A combination of not being in town and having a second car, the X turns 3 in August and has just under 19k miles so it only gets driven 6500 miles /yr

How the hell do you pull that off? I live within a mile of everything, yet do 15!

Wait till the hybrid MINI hits the road.

Prius makes sense in city driving only. Highway its like a Corolla.

1) My job is 15 miles round trip, so that's ~75 miles / week --> 300 miles / month --> 3600 miles / yr
2) I live at the beach, so everything I need that is not work related is at most 5 miles away (the gym is 1.2 miles from my house and every restaurant imaginable is really close)
3) the x has only been on 2 road trips
4) I usually plan my services around getting a loaner car and putting a ton of miles on it (I was having a lot of issues with my benz in '05 and I put about 5k miles on it that year and 10k miles on loaner cars)
5) I'm very picky about how my car is treated (no drinks or food) so most of my friends drive when we go out because they don't want to deal with it
6) the number is slightly skewed because I put 11k on it the first year, 7 on it the next, and less than 1k this year because I haven't been in town


BTW I'm quite jealous you get to drive yours as much as you do, I just got back from a 250 mile round trip to Daytona and back, and I realize how much I love that car, it just eats up the miles, I didn't have the navigation system on and I almost missed the exit coming back because I was thinking there is no way I've already driven 100 miles. Google maps says the trip should've taken 1hr 40 min each way and it took 1hr and 3 min each way.

The Corolla is rated 35mpg on the highway. The Prius is rated 45mpg on the highway. I'd say that's a pretty big difference.

You chalk that up to the amazing HP and Torque of the Prius. I'm sorry but I'll stick with my V8 HP and Torque even if I have to pay $10 a gallon.
