That's the way I've seen it all along (at least for the last 15 yrs or so). Each side has their cheerleaders, but as far as the mainstream goes, it really depends which group happens to be in power at the time. They dig up dirt and the opposition has something to rally behind. Then, like you say, ratings go up. Them reporters is wiley...

Aren't Republicans criticizing too

I'm not arguing the point of who is to blame. Maybe local, maybe state, maybe federal. I'm sure all 3 had their short comings. For example (from the link above):

I understand that we all deal with red tape, but it's just silly IMO to have first responders staged around the hurricane zone and not send them in when they were obviously needed. Why should it be a requirement in the middle of a disaster situation to dot all the "i's" and cross all the "t's"?

All I'm saying is that it's not just a "liberal agenda." Democrats goal is to be in power. They get there by convincing voters that they are right. Republicans have the same goal. Finger pointing is coming from both parties (which as you said is absolutely out of control).

Edit: Wolf is a moron.

Flak jacket on, helmet on, barricades up, OK ready to post!!!!!!!!

Well all I can say is that with everything going on down in N.O. it makes the Asian Sunami look like a picnic.

Lets see 1. How many people were attacking police/army/rescue workers across the Sunami area. Answer: None

2. Looting was happening in the Sunami area as people were looking for food same as N.O., but Hi-Def TV's, computers, stereos, etc. Nope

3. "The buck stops here" was a classic presidential phrase until some presidents figured they could always blame someone else, pretty much everyone from Nixon on down.

4. Apparently the company that makes Hurricane proof city domes went out of business because its small business loan was denied due to cutbacks in that area of the federal budget

5. In all of mankinds history who exactly has been able to plan for a catastrpohic event??

6. Are we now classifying Hurricanes under terrorists or more appropriately WMD's? It sure looked like a good size nuclear device went off and the Feds even had warning on this one. Methinks time to build those fall out shelters again otherwise who knows what will hapen if a nuke ever gets loose in the US, it sure shows the Feds ain't up for it, haven't even covered the biological element of all of this with the current contaminant status in N.O.

Anyway my $0.02 worth. Before you reply let me close the blast door.

its just sad that the richest place in the world more wasnt done to help there own.......

BTW, in the blame department who forgot to point out to George that he needed to sign on a different dotted line to make aid immediate rather than 24 hours later.

I also heard the mayor of N.O. is no longer in New Orleans.

Also how about Trent Lott in 1998 getting a Corp of Engineers Senior Planner effectivly demoted after he had taken a plane ride to Vegas (on a Casino jet) and guaranteed the gaming industry their ability to build a number of new casinos but the Corps guys said it was a disaster waiting to happen next time a hurricane came through becuase it was eroding the coastlne that would weaken a storm and was endangering people and property. Guess who won out though the powerful and casino friendly law maker, the little guy lost again and so did 16,000 employees who used to work at those casinos.

Well it was not just in Thailand and if you've ever been to Thailand they are pretty organized like here, they have weapons like here.

I agree with your point though that it is sad the richest (and largest debtor nation BTW) cannot help its own in a time of need and that people in power have the luxury of squabbling over blame while people who elected them to look over the populace are dying or in peril.

As we all know, there are think tanks. I dont know the answer, but has anyone figured out how much the govts of LA, and the feds will save in govt funding to recipients of that area, i.e., welfare, etc? I know its a horrible thing to think about at a time like this, but I think it would also be worth it...

Look. EVERYONE knew those levies were pieces of crap, and were unworthy of being there. We knew since the 50's or 60's...There is a REASON they werent fixed. However, you see all the faces that are crying and weeping on the news everynight about poor N.O.? I bet NONE of those people will make it back to N.O., and I bet their same lower class homes on the delta will be replaced with "waterfront communities" built by lucrative developers in NO TIME. And how much do you want to bet the levies will be kept up THEN! These are the same people whos job it is to assess how much natural resource will be available with the current rate of population growth. They also are responsible for coming up with ways to preserve these resources.

Enough about that, though..But dont EVER underestimate your friendly federal govt...They're a lot smarter than you think...$0.02..

Boy am I glad the thread spiraled again since SNAguru's

This definately makes for some humorous reading. And like Ifly, I have my helment on as well.

1. Obviously there were some serious failures out there. If nothing else, there were some serious PR failures. All they really had to do was watch CNN and Fox and airlift relief supplies to the reporters, since they were where the most affected areas were (I-10 anyone?, superdome) This would have projected a sense to all of us watching (non victims since noone in the path had TV) that somebody knew what they were doing.

2. Take one look at the guvner of LA. She either looks scared, stupid, or high.

3. People are already taking cover. Stating that response comes from the ground up Some are suggesting that now is not the time for finger pointing and that is should come later. BS! You gotta stay on there asses or they will slack off

4. I believe that for now, the Mayor should stay putt. He represents a constituency that feels they are forgotten and he needs to finish the job. After that, he should be bitchslapped right outta office. He has obviously shown no real leadership except the excellent ability to complain about the response.

5. As for looting around the world. It is incredably hilarious that some said that the tsunami disaster didnt have any Plasma TVs stolen. They probably didnt have any!!! Anywhere there is an opportunity to loot and steal, it will happen except maybe in Mayberry. Just because they did it in N.O. doesnt mean that the citizens of N.O. are a bunch of thugs. They certainly have them, but so does L.A. (Rodney King incident ring a bell?)

6. There has been statements regarding the stupidity of those who stayed, and that they got what they deserved. This is ridiculous as well. I am sure that the % of thugs in that city matches the % of stupid people as well and those groups will not get any simpathy from me. However, the poor (which when shown on TV means black) simply had no means to escape and that falls to the US, State, and Local authorities to take the hit for. Someone suggested that perhaps they should have used the 2 legs God gave 'em and walked. Can you imagine 10,000 people walking on an already crowded interstate. Can you imagine 10,000 people getting exposed to the elimates when Katrina hit? THINK PEOPLE

7. Think of the children in all of this. Regardless of there parents status (THUG, or Stupid, or Poor), these children are at the mercy of there parent's perdicament and it is heartbreaking that they are suffering.

8. THIS IS NOT A PLAN to "screw" the black man. It is simply perposturous. There are too many people involved for it to be a conspiracy. I do believe though that this is a special moment in our History where we can mend alot of wounds throughout our History by stepping up to the plate for Americans. Ok, you can say that the majority of these affected people are black. But we should definately rebuild that city and make it a shining example of pulling together for Americans because last time I checked, they ARE American. Everyone bitches about the AID we give around the world, well lets not bitch about the AID we give ourselves for once. Lets not allow these affected peoples to be pushed out of the way for $1 million dollar homes just because the Supreme Court says we can. Lets give these individuals a chance to start companies that get the money to rebuild there own homes and become successful.

WE HAVE A CHANCE!!!! Lets not screw it up

9. This is incompetence at all levels. They could not have possibly been caught off guard since everything has happened that the "news" said would happen. N.O. apparently is a poor city when it comes to budgets and they simply didnt push to have a better plan in place. Who's fault is that? It starts def from the ground up and should get bigger each step it takes. I believe that this is the first crisis of this magnitude that Homeland Security has faced. Do you really think they got a passing Grade?

10. Last, but not least, DO NOT CLOSE THIS POST. Regardless of the brutal language used, or lack of coherent language skills, I am personally fed up with News Spin. It would be great to debate this issues in a forum full of real people, even if what you hear is disgusting. Also, let everyone jump on a certain comment if they dont like it, because I have seen alot of it out here. Let the debate happen as long as it needs to happen because we all have been affected by this in some way. It could actually be thereputic for us well off X5 owners.
