Our wonderful healthcare system....

http://news.aol.com/story/_a/video-s...861x1200232130

Esmin Green, 49, had been waiting in the emergency room for nearly 24 hours when she toppled from her seat at 5:32 a.m. on June 19 and fell face down on the floor. She was dead by the time someone on the medical staff finally came to her aid.

Green's collapse barely caused a ripple. Other patients waiting a few feet away didn't react. Security guards and a member of the hospital's staff appeared to notice her prone body at least three times, but made no visible attempt to see if she needed help.

One guard didn't even leave his chair, rolling it around a corner to stare at the body, then rolling away a few moments later.

Not sure how that is our health care system, looks to me like individual actions..but sure...lets sum it up.

Yes, if it was an isolated incident. But if you read the article, there had been numerous complaints about this hospital, including a lawsuit, claiming that the hospital was understaffed and overcrowded, and that care was substandard, but nothing was done about it. The fact that nothing was done by those in charge, makes this a "system" problem rather than individual.

And how many hospitals are in the US? I'd agree that is egregious, just don't think it should be wrapped into socialist rhetoric.

If that's the case then the title "Our wonderful healthcare system...." does not fit. Perhaps this individual hospital needs to be the center of you dispute.

Actually, the dispute would be with the "The New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation" who runs the hospital. And BTW, they also run all the public hospitals and health clinics in New York City.

Well, it's a good thing that many NY employers offer health benefits to their staff so they don't need to go to public hospitals and health clinics..

So Eric, how are the health benefits for your employees coming along these days?

Can't afford it. It's not a choice, but a necessity. If I cut myself from the payroll completely, the company would still lose money each month if I was to offer full health benefits to everyone. I've offered to pay half, but none of my employees have taken me up on the offer. If I go out of business, then not only will they not have health care, but they won't have jobs either.

Hmm Understaffed and overcrowded sounds like Universal Healthcare

Seriously thou! There needs to be hospital accountability, this is pathetic
