Thanks all;

Funny thing. I've been trying to get a computer someone
turns in to their company after they get a new one but
I'm finding out few corporations do that anymore so there's slim pickens
in the used dept. But the consensus around here seems to be
Lenovo so I'll take a look at what they have.

I'm still going to try to stay within the specs i outlined though.

As I suggested already, look at DealNews.com. They have a Lenovo or two listed...

If you just wanna fool around on a laptop, just go to Best Buy and buy the one with the best specs for the best $. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Plus, I heard from some people that ThinkPad's quality has slipped since Lenovo took over. I wouldn't trust a Chinese company too much...

Ok here's the update. I tried everything i could to avoid
this choice but alas Apple made me do it.

It' a MacBook pro 2.4 Intel Core 2 Duo with VM ware installed
and XP professional. Now i can remove Windows from my desktop.

My expanding Studio required portability and since Apple
decided to remove a needed firewire port from their
new MacBook pro i decided to get this one instead.

$1550.00 bucks with a $150 rebate.

Hey QS,

Have you heard of these guys?

http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxmac/

They have a Mac product for running Windows apps without installing Windows in a VM or in bootcamp.

They had a giveaway of a free copy and I have a code that I signed up for but won't use, if you're interested. It has to be registered by Nov. 30.

I have heard of them but the reviews were not that good
and the software you could run was limited. Things might
have change since then though.

The only thing with the codeweavers thing is that it runs windows from mac OSX as an application much like parallels...

I actually have parallels and bootcamp versions of XP on my iMac, put the parallels in first (which runs slow as I have 2 operating systems running simultaneously) then added bootcamp because I needed full hardware accelloration for something I was doing... Now just gotta figure out which one to axe to free up 32 gigs...

From what I can tell, the CodeWeavers product runs the apps in OS X as seamless apps not within a virtual machine window like Parallels. Also, unlike Parallels, it does not require a Windows license.

Personally VM ware turned out to be more stable than parallels
and i understand that Bootcamp is the best option for running
windows as long as you don't mind rebooting each time.
