Moto scooter advice please

One of my friends is looking into the purchase of a moto scooter. Currently he shares a car with his girlfriend and does a lot of walking but he's moving to a place where they are going to need a second set of wheels.

His budget is around $2k and he's thinking Vespa or Honda or Genuine Buddy Scooter.

I don't know if the dealers discount or used is a good option and was hoping to get some advice here.

He would prefer a larger cc motor but understands that price is a limiting factor..

ANy thoughts?

B-Line, I know m'cycles very well; dunno squat about scooters...
the last scooter I had was an ol'Cushman Eagle, circa '62.

Why a scooter? Tell him to get a used bike. He'll enjoy it much more.

Honda makes great two-wheelers in general.

I didn't think of that, but I agree with Vig...

why get a scooter with small tires, so-so brakes, strange
rake & trail steering angles, etc., when that $2G budget
puts a plethora of real motorcycle picks in your friend's
target?!

I realize m'cycles of any size are inherently much faster
require an MC license, different insurance possibly, etc.
A scooter may be better suited for zipping around at lower
speeds in traffic or a grocery run, but I'd take any real
m'cycle over any scooter for almost any riding situ(s).

Like I said, the scooter ain't for me. I drive a 1550cc Harley

I think though, that a motorcycle is inherently more work, dangerous, etc. then zipping around on a scooter. You can park scooters easier and don't have to worry about a "M" class. And there also more agile, don't have to worry about shifting, etc.

Besides, what type of motorcycle can you buy for $2k??

I used to have a piece of crap, Suzuki Savage, single cylinder, 650, I think it was a 1984. I would imagine a bike like that would be worth $1500 today.. And that's a 24 year old moto...
