700. There were about 6 of "us" in our circle of schools and thats after I moved out of a similar Boston suburb with thousands of kids and a lot more money. Same damn thing. Know what? My cousins in CT and Westchester were the same way.

Yeah, my town had a smaller population than some of the "supertowns" in clusterfuck hell with hundreds of thousands of people and multiple zip codes and all that great stuff you get with urban sprawl (mall rats, crime, fake EVERYTHING). Why do you think we all left! My community was a bunch of transplants from California NY and Boston. We cared about education, 9K/12K of our property tax goes straight to the school district. The state and federal cuts are what I'm referring to.

But since there are taxes that need to be collected, I see no reason why tobacco, alcohol, marijuana, junk food, etc. aren't as good a place to get the money as anywhere else..

- And I don't just advocate higher taxes on tobacco. I advocate higher taxes on real estate (California prop 13.) - I advocate higher taxes on lots of luxury things.

The only thing I really don't advocate tax hikes on is disproportionate tax increases on the wealthy, small business owner, etc. and estate taxes that are enormous. If someone spent their entire life paying taxes, why should the government get 1/2 their money at time of death? That means their heirs will only get 1/4 of what the family worked for.

Nobody likes taxes and I wish our tax money was better spent.

You're confusing the issue now. Now you argued where smokers should smoke, that is 100% entirely different than taxes on the product IMO. "Luxury Things"...a BMW is a luxury thing, a Tag watch or Rolex is a luxury thing, I don't class cigarettes as a luxury thing.

And I agree, they should tax McDonalds, Burgerking, and all the other crap, transfat heart attack mongers.. Though if they go near In-N-Out with a tax, I'll blow somebody's head off. lol.

MD just passed laws last year banning smoking damn near everywhere in the state but your own home in a bathroom with the blinds closed

FYI...I don't even smoke cigarettes, never have, just don't believe in "opinion" dictating which items are taxed on the whim to drive up state revenue that should be captured with more scruples in their spending.

That's strange, here in Cali I don't even here about smoking laws anymore.. I sort of remember hearing about some law being enacted that said drivers in a car can't smoke if they have small children in the car.. But I don't quite remember the law.
