it's not a virus nor spyware, it's a corrupt upgrade dll for realplayer.

That comment reminds me of Novell fans.
The virus writers don't want to waste their time for small user base. Wait till mac users are enough and they are writing mac specific virus. Just a matter of time.

That's probably true but it is my limited understanding that operating system is more secure and less prone to viruses?

Not if you compare to Vista.

I thought that Vista uses gobs of memory and CPU?

I also thought that Vista had/has so many bugs that people switch back to XP?

My point was, with a Mac, it's not a "chore" to keep a "clean machine". You don't need to continuously delete processes, clean registries, and defragment HD's weekly to keep things humming along at max speed. With the exception of frustration with Vista, that's a top reason people buy Mac's. Will they be virus free forever? Probably not, but they are right now .

SG, G/R, et al...I hear ya on the Macs, but it isn't in the near term cards:
why toss good, large memory 'puters that I know and that "work" well,
and that move is not in the budget so to speak.

I, like you, do run a paronoia induced, clean azz 'puter as I assume
every bad guy is out to tip in here.

I am gonna pass on the RP download for awhile...I have several other
options for watching vids. If I get to something that only RP will handle,
I will put it back on.

I love my 'puter, here & back on the Mtn: it is my window to the world.
Thanks to all...

I'm with you, SG: I defrag a couple times per week, run AdAware
once a day, Registry Mechanic weekly, CC cleaner every other day...
ad nauseum. However, my "processes" list is a fookin mile long. Part
of that is Norton I realize, but it goes on and on and on...

Don't have the ballz to knock everything off.
