Here is a link which will take you to a video of what the 'rainbow effect' is on DLP tvs. When you go into a store, bring a DVD that has black and white scenes on it. Then move your eyes very quickly from one area of the TV to another.

You'll see what I mean with this link. This video shows exactly what you will see if you are can see the dreaded rainbow effect (I wish I didn't see it! )

Honestly, to me it would be a toss up between a Pioneer Plasma, Sony SXRD (LCOS), or a DLP if I didn't see rainbows (I haven't investigated DLPs so I can't make a brand reccomendation there, but Mitsubishi has always made a nice set). Plasma gets very pricey beyond 50", so if you want a 60" set I would go with a SXRD....

By the way the possible screen burn in that I reported a few hours back appears to be isolated to a single set that a person bought, so ignore that fact. LCOS seems to be the best technology for rear projection right now, but thats just my opinoin.

For those Sony SXRD's, can you think of a national retailer that is selling those? I'd like to take a look at one in the flesh.
