I don't have a copy yet but I heard it looks like the OSX desktop.
What's different compared to XP???

As someone who ran Win Vista for 6 months and then went back to Win XP, I was a little sceptical with all the hype about Win 7. Anyway, after trying Win 7 for a while, I was so impressed (by the UI, the capabilities, the stability, and the speed) that I went out and bought a 64-bit capable PC so that I would be ready when the Win 7 RC comes out. I have Win 7 x64 and Vista x64 on that new PC right now. I can not believe how well Win 7 recognized everything that I have installed in, and connected to, that new PC. So I can't really talk about specifics that I like about Win 7 yet (as I'm actually enjoying Vista x64) but there is no doubt that Microsoft has finally come out with a worthwhile OS upgrade -- the last good one was Win 2000!

I haven't tried it yet, I'm on Vista 64 Ultimate with SP2 RC. So far it's working great, but it's probably due to the monster hw that i threw at it. Quad core CPU and 8 GB of ram will pretty much fix any OS
 Vista SP1 has a serious problem with older USB devices, it will consistently blue screen. I loaded SP2RC and it's been great.

Right. I heard they were designing one for faster start up and bypass to internet directly.

I'm on the W7 beta. My experience is that it works better than Vista on lower powered machines. For example, it runs well on my old 1.1 GHz TabletPC where Vista was a hog. I think they're targetting it to run well on Netbooks.
I don't have a problem with Vista and much prefer it to XP on an appropriately beefy machine (GF and I both have quad cores with 4 GB RAM running x86). I can't remember one BSOD or other significant problem with it. Looks great on a 24" LCD. There are a couple of odd things about W7 like they took out Windows Mail (used be called Outlook, you can download Live Mail or another client). I still don't understand why the full PC backup isn't in all versions. I have it in Vista Ultimate and it should be a basic part of any operating system, IMO. There will be more codec support in W7 including H.264: Windows 7 codec support - Neowin Forums This is a big win since most users will not need codec packs which are a common vector for malware.
